Aww, she's a cutie. (And she looks like a chewer...)

We just got a rescue pup (2-3 yrs old) ourselves. He's ridiculously well-mannered. New thread soon to come.

Good luck!

Congrats on the new addition!

My girlfriend just got a 2-yr old Black Lab mix from a rescue last week. Its her first dog so she's still adjusting.

Mom was a lab mix (boxer? maybe) dad a Shar Pei.

So she's got plenty of growing to do.

She's the runt of the litter, siblings are all half-again larger. But now that she's not competing for the food, she's catching back up quick.

She certainly is (on both counts). Currently still teething in her puppy teeth. So far though she's been surprisingly good about mostly choosing appropriate items to chew.

You guys are making me miss my dog:(

Cute pics there.
That looks like a good dog. I think 99% of dogs are good dogs, and you can usually tell just by looking at them.

Lots of puppies in this thread, and not one of them from a "breeder" or pet store.

You guys get it. Thank you.

I don't know if this counts as from a breeder but ollie's one of the pups from my friends cocker spaniels.

Yeah I'm with you. Three dogs here; two from rescue organizations and one from the municipal shelter.

For us, shelters/rescue organizations are always plan A, reputable breeders are plan B, and most breeders and pretty much all pet stores aren't even considered.

We've yet to have to resort to plan B though. Although we have gotten two of our dogs from a breederish setting, my family has so far never purchased a dog from a breeder in a traditional sense, though we have received two from them.

One was a purebred bloodhound with (fairly bad) eye defects. The breeder was a show dog breeder, and she was unshowable. Dad was the mailman that covered their route, and they knew we were looking for a pup. So they gave her to us. A far better fate than that pup would have gotten from many breeders. Grew up to be staggeringly huge @125 pounds or so. Biggest bloodhound I've ever seen. And quite the sweetheart.

The other was the first (of three) Jack Russels my parents have. That guy was primarily a horse breeder, and the dogs were working dogs on his farm. He did breed them, but not as a main business, mainly to give to his buddies with horse farms. Had an extra big litter one year and ran out of buddies to give pups do. My dad was running a side business of inland lakes fishing charters in the UP. The cost of the puppy was an evening out fishing.

On an unrelated note, the fishing charter regulations in MI assume you're going out on one of the great lakes. There's no provision for the kind of chartering dad was doing (and will do again when he retires from the post office). This meant dad had to stuff a staggering amount of emergency/safety equipment in his 14' Boston Whaler. He didn't even bother telling the state he used the canoe sometimes too.

Cool looking dog. We have a Shar Pei mix who has turned out to be pretty sweet despite the puppy craziness.

If I could ever figure out how to post a picture I would put one up.

we got our mini daschund froma breeder in northern nh.. we did alot of research on the woman first and she had no issues that we could find. got the dog and she had a guarentee with her. first shots and so on. health cert. the woman made us sign an agreement that if at any time we couldnt keep the dog or take care of her she would without question take the dog back.

I got Bubba from a family that bred Ridgebacks and sold them. They had one male and one female. If that makes them "breeders," whatever. They were out in the sticks of AR, as in "go left at the Y in the road and go 2 miles and look for 3 driveways..." All the other places I found that had Ridgebacks were so weirded out, "You have to crate train you dog, they can't stay outside, you can fill out an application..." it was getting stoopid. These people hunted hogs with his parents. They were like "You're gonna let him in the house?!!" "Well, just for tonight."

This is Zoey Peepers, our rescued greyhound. She's not a puppy, but only 3 years old, and super goofy.

Launch!

Even a retired racer can't stay out of the driver seat too long:

In reply to barnca: Yeah, the kids in the park are always amazed and call her a "tiger dog". I notice you're in Concord, we actually adopted her from the rescue group over in Seabrook.

any chance the breeder was Tiny Tails? We got our longhaired mini doxie from her just before she moved from NH to TN.
