My criteria for a great movie are 1) Car Chases and 2)Explosions...so I am pretty easy to please. I was not a big fan of the Transformers movies to date, and would have skipped this one except I read reviews that said that it was a re-boot of the franchise. They brought in Walburger (who I like) and went in a very different direction. Cool I told myself, because I can't sit through 90 minutes of slow motion Robots twisting in mid air, shooting each other over nothing more than a slowed-down dubstep soundtrack. (Waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh, wroooooooooop, wrooooooooooop, fwaahhhhhhhhh) So I got a sitter for my anniversary and we went to the movieplex to check it out. I skipped the 3D version because I am not a fan.
Good news, it was not 90 minites of the same old schtick. Bad news, it was 2 hours and 40 minutes of it. Same plot development, same unrealistic scenarios, same explosions with no sound, same depressing soundtrack, same Optimus Prime voice-over soliloquy at the end. I survived the first half because of some cool car-guy stuff. A cool Chevy Sonic Rally car, Local Motion Rally-Fighters, a Pagani, A Lambo...even a cameo by Ed Wellburn. But eventually, it just got too dumb even for me. My wife was a trooper, but I now owe her a day at the spa...and a pony.
Yeah it was dumb and didn't even hold my attention as well as the previous ones...a bit sub-par even for a Transformers movie.
Edit: Biggest letdown is that they tried to take the dinosaur-riding scenes too seriously.
^LMAO classic!

GameboyRMH - that's awesome. That trailers should've been in the movies.

Ouch!
The first one was decent mostly because it was "new" in it's own way.
I am sure many have noticed many recent movies are bit less then what might be called "original". Well, that flood ain't over yet:

Some of these could go very wrong. What I heard about the Vacation re-make was that it is less of a re-make and more of a follow up with Anthony Micheal Hall bringing his kids to Wally World (still could be horribly derivative though).
On a better note, here are some actual ORIGINAL ideas (I am suspicious Earth to Echo is effectively an ET re-do though):

i don't know if i'll see it... i've noticed that each of the last movies became more and more cartoony- the first one was at least kind of gritty and realistic, the second less so, the third not at all..
i bet i can guess the basic plot: Decepticons do some bad stuff, Autobots get their asses handed to them, Grimlock says "Grimlock smart. Grimlock do it my way without Optimus" before letting Optimus ride him, Optimus kicks every Decepticons ass all by himself then says something deep over a Linkin Park song as the closing credits start to roll..
i'll take the original 1986 movie, thank you very much...
I don't mind Micheal Bay. I know what to expect from his movies: Explosions, cool FX, a few funny lines, and hot women. I know what not to expect: A plot that makes any sense or that I will care about at all. Going in with those expectations, I'm usually able to enjoy myself watching one of his flicks. Turn your brain off and enjoy the ride.
For the record, I enjoy "good" movies, too. The Coen brothers are probably my favorite filmmakers overall.
