The dealership probably stood to make a killing off guy #1 from the high monthly payment they got him to agree to. From there it was probably a giant mark up on some used beater as well as a giant interest loan for an extremely long time. All of that being Dealer Cha-Ching!
Meanwhile, you, the guy with the low margin price and the good (unprofitable) credit waited.
