Last night a couple friend of ours had their one year anniversary party. Their house backs up to a city park so you can look at it as if they have a ten acre back yard.
Their party was a quaint little affair and one of the guests, who is a professional musician who has had a #1 hit (Brian Vander Ark, The Verve Pipe) brought along his guitar and a little box amp and just hung out with a few of our other musician friends. The little jam session started in front of about 40-50 people and by 8:30 there was damn near 1000 people in the park chilling out.
I have never seen anything like it. It was a rather cool experience.
Wow, that sounds incredible! You're fortunate to be in an area that people are cool enough not to complain/call the cops & have it shut down, too!

Cool. Love it when a party takes a turn for the awesome like that. :)
That sounds so freakin' cool. They better do it again next year
that sounds very cool!
i had a similar event happen to me, though no professional musician was there, just a bunch of drunks. We were all hanging out at a bar one night for Karkaoke when the machine just took a dump. Me, being in my drunken stupor, just started singing Biz Markie "Just a Friend" when the whole bar broke out in chorus, and i mean a good 150 people screaming this song, laughed my ass off...
Love the verve pipe....last time I saw them was locally in GR.
still trying to find a song Brian sang.....something about "taking my own medication"

Some friends of my wife took the two of us out for dinner and drinks before we left town for an extended period. We were at a blues club in pre olimpic down town Atlanta. The band on stage was pretty good but they got much better when B.B. King and Lucille walked thru the door and joined them on stage.
Everything is better with BB King.

Awesome - the Verve Pipe rawks!
Brian Vander Ark is awesome, I have seen the Verve Pipe play twice in Kalamazoo, but I prefer his solo projects. If you have not heard them, listen to "then you went away", and "someone like you"
great stuff...

Wow. The Verve Pipe is bouncing around East Lansing. I was working at Music Manor (a local Lansing MI area music store) when "Freshmen" hit big. I had crossed paths with them and a good chunk of the other local "Alternative" bands playing then. I was listening mostly to the local college radio station which played them along with a bunch a other local bands. I didn't even realize they had a national hit until I saw their video MTV one day.
The Verve Pipe rocks! Sounds like a wonderful thing to experience.
