I'm seeing various forms of high grade retro reflective tape becoming more readily available. I will be doing like my father and decorating my MC helmet with this, and parts of my bike when I get one. But has anyone here stickered up a car with this stuff in the name of safety?
I have a Joe Rocket Military Spec jacket, military bases require reflective gear. The orange vest is very light and folds into a zipped slot in the back when you're out with your buds.

I have DOT tape and a few SOLAS stickers on the bandit.

I've seen buses with skinnier bodies.
When I drove commercial.. I had that stuff all over the box and back of the truck I drove.
I've seen someone with reflective tape on a hitch on the back of a subaru wagon so it was a (practically) solid strip along the bottom.
Your local sign company can get you as much as you want and in various colours. I've put lots of it on all kinds of stuff. It is thicker and less conformable than other vinyls .
Couldn't help but think of this.

I picked up 2 rolls of Duct brand reflective tape today, 1 white, 1 red. Should I limit the red to the back of my helmet?

I would go red on the back or at least majority red.
I don't know jack about motorcycle safety, but my BiL, who's taught rider safety classes for years and commutes year-round, has a bunch of reflective stuff. For some reason, all of the reflective bits on his "conspicuity" gear are white; none are red. Dunno if this is by law, or if the science says white is most visible (my guess), or both, or because perhaps white is his favorite color??
Incidentally, Harbor Freight sells small rolls of red/white DOT reflector stickers for a few bucks; I bought some to cover up some failing rear bumper trim.
Please pause for a two-second Google search:
