I just got an EZ Pass violation in the mail from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. $51.50 and a photo of my car. The thing is, the EZ Pass was in the car and that wasn't the only toll that we went through that day. It worked as it should have everywhere else.
Has anybody had any luck disputing one of these?
Yes, all the time. Write your EZ-Pass number on the form and include a check for only the toll that was actually due. Ignore the penalty. There are instructions for this on the back of what they sent you somewhere.
GPS has it right. I usually just write the EZ-Pass number down and send it in. They will bill the account
Thanks guys. I was too irritated to flip the citation over and read the back. This was easier.
This is why a lot of people use to have an EZ-pass around here.

I've had it happen twice with my Mini. Another option is to call and they'll charge a credit card the toll. Saves the stamp and check...
The annoying thing is in PA (where my EZ-Pass is registered), I don't actually need the tag in the car for the PATP - it'll read the plate and charge the account that way. Unfortunately, the NJ and PA systems don't communicate...

I gave up on mine after getting 30+ violations one month on a newish pass with and plenty of money on my card.

PA and NJ don't talk so you have to mail NJ the money. PA can do it off the plate and they talk to NY/CT/MA/DE.
I got a letter from NJ demanding $3.85 or I'd be turned over to collections. I sent them a check for $3.84. Because... civil disobedience! Muhahahaha!
The California version uses the plate number as well, if you have the plate number on file with them they just bill your account even if the transponder doesn't work.

That is awesome, did they turn you over to collections for $.01 or just write it off?
