Heavily ironic, the only difference was the actual technology being used. But it was okay, because that's how they did it when he was young and didn't have money.

My wife's 07 grand caravan has the same stereo as my 03 dodge 1500. CD and tape baby, stylin'.
This thread makes me want to make this year's first official YouTube video from SPRT have Hit The Lights as the backing track.
So, today is Record Store Day. Anyone go/get anything good?
I went down to my local store, but there was a line on the sidewalk, and they had only gotten 4-7 copies of the records I wanted to buy. So I went to the farmer's market instead.
I grabbed this thing when the local uni decided to throw it away for no good reason. It's sitting in my (rather extensive) music gear setup:
It's every bit as awesome as it looks. It will be even more awesome when I fix the power supply issue and get it working. (I haven't used the "machine shop / studio" wall plate for anything yet, but all the LEDs are still there. Was thinking of making an Arduino controller for it & turning it into a pretty visualizer decoration for my studio.)
Incidentally I bought this brand new cassette release in 2014. One side is full of experimental glitch-tech chiptune-y win. The other side is a C64 data track. Naturally it's one of the coolest albums I own.
how mad would Lars be if everyone that bought this copied it, then made copies of the copies on old Duran Duran and Huey Lewis and the News tapes from a thrift store, then gave them away to random people on the street?
actually, now that i think of it, it would be kind of fun to just write "no life til leather" on them and give them to young kids (maybe on a cd or something- most kids can at least still borrow one of those from their parents) and not tell them who it is to see how they responded to it..
Meh.
If they're being all retro, will they get James back on the sauce so that there will be some decent songs on the tape?

Yeah, it was a pain in the ass, but that's how you did it. You made a copy and put it in the mail to some dude. How ironic that he, of all people, said that... *cough*Napster*cough* Back on topic: Let's not forget that it's being released on April 18th, Record Store Day!
I think the cool kids use torrents these days, but don't tell Lars...

Sadly this is the first Record Store Day in a while that I missed. I planned to hit some stores in Tampa, but between a skatepark contest down the street at our local park plus the fact that I'm just beat, I decided to stay close to home.
The best was 2013. Our friends' punk band played gigs across Florida that day--acoustic shows at independent record stores. I tagged along for a few of the stops.
I don't think I've ever participated in a Record Store Day. I have, however, picked up some sweet tunes on vinyl in the past month:
From fellow GRM'er MA$$hole:
Kvelertak-Meir
Roadsaw (self titled)
From the bargain bin of the flea market to satiate my latent mullet desires:
Saxon-The Power and the Glory
Michael Schenker Group-Assault Attack
Y&T-Mean Streak
I really need to fix or upgrade my receiver, though. I have an old Technics SA-300, like this:
It has issues outputting sound to both speakers at the same time, and everything is crackly. The speakers will cut out every once in a while. If there's a way to fix this, that would be great. It's a nice vintage receiver, and prices of similar ones have spiked lately.
Pff..If you want vintage tape, go whole hog. I picked one of these up a few years back...but it's hard to find anything to play on it....
Typwriters at the coffee shops, cassette tapes from pop bands, old 10 speed road bikes rehashed into 1 speed bikes... Whats next ham radios and b&w TVs?!
I was accosted by a hipster at the used junk store a couple weeks ago (he was blocking the only narrow isle out, and hadnt taken a shower in a months, so I think accosted is the right word). He stopped me to explain how cool the old "oscillographs" were and what a great deal they were... for 15 minutes. He didnt know how to use them but he found out how to get them to make "cool waves" on the screen
No record store day for me, but my pre order of the Lumineers new album on white vinyl came in the other day.
I had...actually still "have"...four large zip-up cassette cases that I carried everywhere with me on the front seat of my car. I'd made numbers #1 through #4 from duct tape and put them on the top of each for easy reference. #1 was metal, #2 was punk, #3 was prog rock, and #4 was a mix of new-wave, classic rock, and whatever else that I didn't listen to as frequently.

Depends on the length of the judge's beard and whether or not he uses organic, free trade, cage free beard balm

Hipsters generally groom themselves meticulously. I suspect what you actually encountered was a homeless person.
In reply to Jay:
Ha could be, he did have the beard, plaid shirt, and skinny jeans, stocking cap...
Is there a crossover clique like homeless hipsters?

He could have been a really serious hipster.. most of them just try to look homeless, he decided to really commit and actually become homeless. But of course he did it before it was cool..
