So instead of no more Bush we get more Clinton. My only hope with Obama winning was that change meant we wouldn't have the same tired people in there. We've had 20 years of Bushes and Clintons. Can't we let someone else screw things up for a while?

Look at the rosters all the way back to Nixon...

Probably explains why Jimmy Carter is so irritable lately.

Jimmy Carter has real issues with Bubba, check the video clip of all ex-Prez in the Oval Office with 'Bama. Carter snubbed Clinton hard.

Pun intended.

LQ as Queen of State & the Clinton Foundation scare the bajeepers out of me. Add this to NY Gov's budget and I can't retire until I'm 94.

OK, who wants to pool their finds and buy an island with a big garage??

If you made a venn diagram with circles for tax cheats, Clintonistas, and ex-lobbyists, the intersection of all three would be the Obama cabinet.

No lobbyists will work in my administration.....er, um,..er, let me be clear, um...when I say,,well...er...no lobbyists will find a home in my administration, except those that I, er, um, pick to be there.

Is there anyone he has picked that isn't/wasn't a lobbyist? Or a tax cheat, or a recycled Clinton cabinet member?

First let me say I see nothing wrong with the guy earning a lot of money from public speaking. If he can command those kinds of fees then more power to him. I don't know what he does, but apparently some of the troubled firms thinks that what he has to say will be of some benefit to them & help them get out of the hole.

The tone of the article, and others, seems to imply that no one can work for or help out a troubled company. Without doing something these companies will never get better.

I am also not sure how this article led to the posts we've had. What am I missing? He wasn't a lobbyist.

But come on, you didn't really believe that nonsense about change did you? The only change they were looking for was who's pocket the money would flow into. Look at the stimulus package, it's as if a kid found a cookie jar full or money and started thinking of all the ways he could spend it.

That's half the story, according to Jimmy Carter, they (Clintons and Carters) had already been talking in a back room—had already exchanged greetings about 30 seconds prior. But..that's the kinda E36 M3 that gets repeated over and over.

I don't know why you guys always seem so surprised by this stuff! I mean the fact that they are "connected" is the WHOLE REASON THEY ARE WHERE THEY ARE!!

Instead of looking at it like some sort dodge of campaign promises (like anyone has a good record on that) perhaps you should look at it as a sad statement of how hard it is to find any kind of quality government person that isn't inter-twined with some big money interest. Which I believe is the whole point of the article.

Everyone on the hill is a lobbyist. A lobbyist is a person with connections and an agenda.

Legislators are just publicly elected lobbyists who also get a vote.

As soon as a legislator looses his office, he becomes a lobbyist, because it's the same job, in a different office, for more money.

the whole govenrment, for the most part, is out to line their own pockets. you got the rare guy with the best interest of the people every once in a while come to office and every time i vote i hope that X is next to the name of one of them. usually, unfortunately, it is not because neither choice was.

Hitler?

No internet political discussion is truly complete without and irrelevant reference to Hitler.

I'm confused about what the problem is here. The guy got paid to speak to some businesses because they thought his expertise would help them out in some way. Admittedly, I'm not the most politically savvy person so maybe someone can clarify this issue for me? I feel like I'm missing some key detail or something.

Man these guys are shameless. Brilliantly shameless.

Typical politicians, in other words. And it's completely idiotic to think that Obama wants to (or even can) change the way Foggy Bottom works.

That's what I've tried to explain to people for the past year. Change is an empty slogan, the only change was which party is in power and there is little to no difference because of that.

They don't command the high speaking fees because they are great speakers. They get them because they know people who are in power and have access to them. In effect you pay some exorbitant fee and it buys you access to get your issue protected.

The problem is not too much money in politics, the problem is too much power in government. As long as there is that much power in DC the people with the fat wallets will find a way to get their way.

I believe it because I choose to.

I also saw the photo op where all the presidents visited the White House with Obama. Carter wouldn't stand close to ole willy.
