Picked up the new iPhone 5 last night, just installed Speedtest this morning.
Sitting at work and the phone is pulling ~33mb down and 14mb up..........that's faster than my $65/month cable connection at the house!

Grand fatherd in with my wifes plan at unlimited, no iPhone 5 though. Had to get a 4S in August after killing hte previous one
My wife had the same experience, she thought she could stream Pandora all day. But the grandfathered AT&T plans are throttled so severely, that even the bottom monthly tier is better. It's their way of forcing everyone off the unlimited plans.
I am holding off on the i5 because when the bosses got theirs, I got all of their old accessories for the 4S. But you know that won't last long.
I'm still on my grandfathered plan, I don't know what benefit it would be to me to get off the grandfathered plan. My house including my friends and families, I have my iPhone connected to Wifi. I really just look at FB and GRM during the day while at work, so I don't need a buttload of speed.

You also probably don't even use a gig.
I got forced off my grandfathered plan about 2 months after they introduced tiers for new customers. Good thing there's usually wifi around.
I was grandfathered in on my unlimited data Verizon plan until I signed a new contract last month. I finally gave in because I needed a new phone, wanted a Galaxy SIII and didn't want to pay full price. Honestly, I'm only paying like $7 a month more than I was, and I get more minutes. I can't complain, I guess.
Buy the phones full price from amazon, fleabay, etc......the verizon store wanted $799 for the razor M, Galaxy S3, and $899 for a iphone 4s without contract.....I'll run my droid x into the ground at those prices.
Yeah, LTE pretty much rocks.
I bailed on my grandfathered unlimited Verizon plan when I moved us to the new family shared deal, which works out cheaper overall. And truthfully, I wasn't using that much data, anyhow. I'm on wifi at home and at work.

(insert me rolling on the floor laughing at the luddite)
Iphone changed my life, by far one of the most important pieces of equipment I have in my arsenal. It basically is like having god-mode turned on.

Have a cookie.
I got a smart phone for my own use and convenience, not to fill some aching emptiness in my deficient character. It makes my life easier, and would be worth it at twice the price.

^^ THIS! I normally pull about 3Mbits on my grandfathered "Unlimited" ATT data plan. Once I hit that throttle limit, it's down to about 0.3Mbits.
I've had ATT mobile service for 12 years now... I don't think they'll be seeing a 13th year from me.

I would suggest NOT moving to Sprint. I'm not throttled, and 0.3mbits is about as fast as i've ever achieved.
It's unbelievable.
t-mobile throttles, but VZW doesn't? I'm sitting at 41gb of data this month over vzw's unlimited, still not throttled. I stream live radio.......24/7

Good to know! Sprint and Verizon were both on my short list of options... Looks like it's narrowed down to Verizon! My co-workers have been seeing speeds like what yamaha posted (on the Verizon network), but I wasn't sure about the throttling - looks like they aren't doing it, thank goodness.

I've reported Sprint to the BBB and FCC for various issues i've had with them since i started. (Hands down the worst experience i've ever had with ANY company in my entire life) I'll be moving to Verizon as soon as i get my ETFs waived.
I've still got my grandfathered ATT plan on my flip phone. It makes phone calls and does nothing else. I used 4 minutes last month. Look up "Luddite" in the dictionary and you'll find a picture of me.
I am a dumb guy who has a dumb phone and will continue to do so until there is absolutely no way I can get by without it.
In reply to 92CelicaHalfTrac:
Lay off the BBB complaints (they mean nothing) and increase the pressure on the FCC complaints. Those cause Sprint real grief.
You'll need to log in to post.
