Snowbirds look to be starting to head out.  Light morning traffic and slightly lighter afternoon traffic in Phoenix.  Once school is out commute will half in time per usual seasonal difference.

Not sure I can really talk about DC without it getting political. Things are not like normal around here. A lot of desperation.

Traffic normal.

still hiring people at work, but only my team as we're directly tied to revenue.

I did hire people in Canada recently to make up for their growth and prepare for work permits to be harder to get. This won't displace us jobs as we have plenty to do here

everyone, accounts big and small are asking for discounts and telling me we're too expensive.  Will be adding tarrif surcharge line soon to all invoices to make up for that loss.

School is out on spring break this week, so traffic is nice for a change. I made it to the office this morning in about 25 minutes. That's about what it was when I moved to my current house 13 years ago. Lately, my average commute is over an hour to go 13 miles.

Since 2000, the greater Charleston area has added a touch over 400k people. It has turned a pretty nice town into a E36 M3hole. If I weren't tied to the area due to my business, I'd leave immediately.

I'm going to go with insanely busy. Both from a traffic standpoint and a business standpoint.

Getting ready to move out of my hometown to somewhere a lot smaller because of the insane amount of growth and E36 M3ty planning.

Twin Falls, Idaho population data

1980- 26.2K

1983- Recon1342 born.

1990- 27.6K

2000- 34.5K

2010- 44.5K

2020- 52.1K

2025 (estimated)- 56.8K

The 2030 census is expected to show a population of over 61K.

As you look at this data, there are a couple of things you need to keep in mind-

1) The city administration through the 80s and 90s was resistant to change and growth (cannot lose the small town vibes, that's unacceptable). Urban planning suffered as a result.

2) The growth from 2010-2025 has been rapid enough to overwhelm the local infrastructure. We are now behind on everything from road repair, infrastructure expansion and upkeep to hospital beds and ER space.

This town has turned into 20 lbs of E36 M3 in a 5 lb bag,  and it ain't getting any better.

I would like to point out that about the time YOU came "of age" the population started exploding.  Cause and effect?

Lolz.

Wasn't me. I was traveling the world from 2001-2009 with Uncle Sam's Misguided Children... LoL

Flights out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa that were consistently full last year are only half full now. Parking at VA facilities has been more crowded due to "return to office" policies.

Here in sunny central Florida towns can't keep up with Mach berkeley development speed. Infrastructure is overwhelmed. One just approved a 50k Sq. Ft. Building with the caveat they may not be able to provide sewer for three years while the new sewer plant gets built. Neat.

Here in PA, it's construction season.  So, normal, but exaggerated by orange cones... and not the fun ones you can slalom through.

Traffic traffic?

Milwaukee is a hell hole as usual.  Kia Boyz, Altimas with no plates, limo tint, and donut spares doing 90 and dippin through traffic.  Go 20-30 over and hope you dont get hit, don't go to the north side unless you gotta.

Plus now that its getting warm we got the lane splitters, the Harley a-holes, and of course the roving gangs of Slingshots bumping hippity hop music.

ALL of the construction is happening around here so it's either white knuckle because of reckless idiots on the highway or stop and go because lane closures.

Metro Detroit traffic seems exceptionaly heavy lately.  Lots of long term road construction on popular highway routes doesn't help.  They do fun things like close several miles of the main highway through the suburbs FOR A YEAR with no real alternative but to take a 30 mile detour or clog the surface steets.

I just moved from a sleepy town in Maine, to one 12 minutes away.  My new town is one of the fastest growing in the state.  With that said, I am AMAZED at the crazy drivers.  I had someone dart out from a gas station in front of me, crossing three lanes into a fourth.  I had to stop and not hit him.  Caught the eye of a truck in the gas station and he was shocked as well.  I had to honk hard last night or get sideswiped by an SUV, that was in Portland.  Yes, traffic is worse everywhere.

That's what it was like when we moved here.

When we lived in the big city there was an area outside town where the wannabe farmers and beautiful people lived. It was country near the city, and very expensive. We joked when we moved here, because it was far away, and cheap, that it will never be like that place.

It's now that place and we hate it. When real estate started to go nuts city people sold their homes for $1m+ and bought out here at pennies on the dollar. That drove prices out here to insane levels and perpetuated the situation.

PW has always walked, sometimes alone, sometimes with the dogs. She will no longer walk because there's so much traffic on our rural road. Fortunately we're far enough back from the road now that we sometimes hear, but don't see any traffic.

I'm not seeing any changes in my part of the world (northern mid-atlantic region of the USA). Traffic is a little worse than usual on my commute due to construction projects. Work is as busy as ever. Restaurants, stores, etc. all appear to be busy as usual. Doctor appointments need to be scheduled months out.

I did run into a friend who owns a body shop yesterday and he mentioned that the auto body business is very slow and has been for several months. He speculated that folks are hanging on to their insurance checks and living with cosmetic damage due to, well, reasons.

In reply to Peabody :

That won't / can't happen here.

They've passed laws that prevent you from subdividing land into parcels less than 25 acres. We also had to sign paperwork stating that we are aware that with country life comes farm noises, farm smells and farm debris and we aren't allowed to complain about it. I couldn't sign fast enough.
