As the university of Illinois sailing Team Staff adviser, and a sailboat racer myself, let me tell you, those rules are the hardest to understand, enforce or even judge.
"room at the mark", or "starboard right of way" are damn near impossible to teach, you have to live them to understand them and lose a few protests to be able to use them....

As a former crew member of a racing sailboat team, I find this comment laughable. I can only conclude you've never actually read them.
No, I have never read them, but I do remember a lot of "right of way"! "right of way"! shouts from my time on a Santana 22.
I guess I should not have said "clear"... maybe "comprehensive"... or just "a lot"
3 days to fix??? Looks like a little duct tape and they're back in business or run down to the hardware store for a fiberglass repair kit - back in action in an hour tops....
