So, I had to go to bed. Tired. How did they deal with car 888 with the busted clutch and a pit stop?
I made it to the end, but just barely.
The 888 car actually finished 5th. There were several safety car periods towards the end and the first seven or eight cars were really bunched-up. Made for some great racing; the gap between first and second was less than a second.
The live video-feed wasn't the best quality, but the production made-up for it. The in-car camera coverage was awesome, as was the aerial coverage. It was cool to see the helicopters (hovering at the top of the mountain) through the in-car cameras.
Watching (and listening to those machines) go up, across and down Mt. Panorama is exhilarationg!
I read that there were 180,000 people at the race. They saw a great one.
Here's a link to a race report:

Those chopper shots as the cars went over Brock Skyline and dropped off down the mountain were fantastic. The rotating in-car cameras have been part of Bathurst coverage for a long time if you want the YouTube videos, and I loved being able to listen in to the radio chatter between the cars and the pits. It was a lot more immersive than most races, and for some reason I'd never realized how much of an endurance race it was before.
I bailed at about lap 131 or so. The 888 car had just developed clutch trouble, and while he was still pretty quick they were trying to figure out how to deal with the one remaining pit stop. I was amazed at the speed of the pit stops - four tires, fuel, a driver change and a front brake pad and rotor change in 35 seconds or so on a hot car? Yowza.
Thanks again. It might not have been a great stream, but the fact that I was watching the race live in Australia from my couch in Colorado still blows my mind a little bit.
They need to show more Australian V8 Supercars here. Very good racing. Are you listening Discovery HD?

It's worth losing a little sleep on a Saturday night; you can make up for that on Sunday.
You'll need to log in to post.
