I'm not picky about mayonnaise, I'll interchange hellman's, dukes, kraft, whatever is on sale.

Miracle whip does not belong anywhere near food that is intended for consumption.

Mayo is disgusting and should not be put on anything.

Its fine for an ingredient in a recipe, but it doesn't belong on a sammich.

*sigh*

If we're talking store bought, Duke's is my preference out of the major brands for general purpose use.

McCormick's Mayonesia is good for using as a base for home made tartar sauce if you're going for a Baja kind of flavor.

Beyond that, it's like talking engine porting. There is a lot of bad information out there, but if you stick to the basics (math, with engine porting, or flavor profile withe mayo) it's easy to see who knows what they're talking about versus people who don't. And unlke engine porting, making home made mayo that matches what you want as an end result is *easy,* folks. There are tons of recipes online, but if you study them, the basics are the same:It really comes down to getting your emulsion correct while using the right acid and oil for your indented application. A mayo made with fresh lemon juice and olive oil is going to pair with different things than one using apple cider vinegar and vegetable oil. It gets even more complex if you're adding dry ingredients, like Old Bay seasoning or mustard powder to the mix.

The question here is "how much effort do you want to put into your cooking to make it perfect?"

There are so many things like this, but because there are so many things like this, you only do it for a few things that are that important to you. Mayo? Not that important to the sandwich.

Some history on Mayonnaise for everyone:

It is not well known, but back before 1912, it was only made in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico.

But, we all know what happened.

The Mexican people loved mayonnaise so much and this loss was so devastating that the Mexican people declared a National day of Mourning which happens every year on the day the shipment was supposed to arrive. This day is of course May 5th or more commonly known as Sinko de Mayo.

Uncle David beat me to it, and several have said it since. I have heard of folks that use dressing on a samich, but I never did understand why. So there is absolutely no reason it should be in a debate about Mayo. If you like dressing, fine, but that would be a debate about what dressing is best!

As a good ol' southern boy, of course I feel that Duke's  is the best... short of home made. Or some of the boutique brands that are all natural. But I'm not actually picky, and get what's least expensive, but is still Mayo.
On that note, lite Mayo means using less (I prefer a smaller amount than restaurants) Jars labeled Lite, are NOT Mayo.. only a bunch of chemicals pretending to be better for you. ( if you can't pronounce most of the ingredients, it's not really food) Never could convince my mom of that, but then she also thought that turkeys had a part of them called bacon! (Hint, they don't!!!)

Yes, I've seen turkey bacon on the shelf, but advertising does wonderssurprise it ain't bacon...

From Chicago. Didn't have Dukes until about 3 years ago when my mom started buying it in Northern Michigan. That is around the time my brother got married to a woman from North Carolina, so maybe that is where it came from?

Good is the operative word. I like that style as well, but MOST of the time, there is so much mayo it lacks texture and is a blobby mess.

You're not hiring it to manage your portfolio.  You just eat it.

When I come to power mayonnaise will be banned, banned worse than asbestos.  I'm tired of it showing up un-asked for and ruining perfectly good sandwiches/burgers.  Jimmy the Tulip said it best:

And I'll take my potatoes fried with a bit of salt.  They don't go in salad :p.

I'm miracle whip, wife is hellmann's, we have both in the fridge.  And yeah she eats mayo with keep on fries.  My mom would make white trash thousand island when we had fish filets. Miracle whip, ketchup, tiny bit of mustard and pickle relish.

Best Foods here.

Best Foods mayonnaise is a mayonnaise. There are other acceptable mayonnaises, but this is my default.

Miracle Whip is Miracle Whip, an FDA-approved sandwich dressing food product with no known or reliably linked side effects outside of the taste it leaves in your mouth.
