I didn't need another reason to hate smokers:

Yes, technically this is hating litterers, not smokers. But smokers sure as hell seem to think the disgusting pile of tossed-out butts at every traffic light is made of invisible unicorn farts or something, because for every water bottle or McDonald's cup I see, there are 2500 filter tips.

Guy here in the bay area was driving an SUV smoking and flicked the smoldering butt out the window. Well the rear window was open and the butt ended up in the back seat and set the truck on fire. Not only did the SUV burn to the ground but the guy got a littering fine also.

If my lungs weren't shot I'd smoke like a torch, I like the taste of tabacco, but I can't smoke no more.

I just make my way in front of them and start flinging pennies or ball bearings out the window.

Filthy bastards

Yeah, it's amazing how many smokers seem to think it's okay to just toss the butts wherever. I'm sure they wouldn't do the same with any other trash, it's just they don't even notice the butts any more. They end up everywhere and are such a nuisance.

Just yesterday on my walk to work I saw a lady finish a smoke and drop her butt not 2 feet from a trash can.

Having been in the Military for 16 or so years and done my fair share of "police calls" that crap drives me nuts.

I had a friend put a cig out in my yard once. I looked at him and asked if he did that in his parent's yard...he picked it up and said sorry.

My wife (psychologist) has had a client with COPD and emphysema tell her that she quit smoking because her husband's insurance was going to charge them more with her as a smoker. The COPD and emphysema wasn't enough, it had to hurt her in the wallet. Damn.

I'm always floored when I see nurses and doctors smoking. (Not that it makes a difference because EVERYBODY knows how bad smoking is).

There is a flock of nurses that cram the stairwell across the street from me every hour on the hour. And they work at a hospice, so they are in direct contact with all the people who are withering away to death from smoking related diseases.

I don't. I equate smoking with people who make different choices than I do. But it crosses the line into unacceptability when you start throwing burning trash on the ground, and the gutters at each red light are filled with snowdrifts of the damn butts.

Smoke all you want, but take your damn trash to a proper disposal, and pay for your own damn healthcare.

This.

Maybe a couple of decades ago when there wasn't decades upon decades of medical research in to how bad it was for you, but nowadays you have to just be a gross retard to smoke.

There's decades upon decades of research that says McDonald's sandwiches, movie popcorn & ice cream are also bad for you. I guess everyone who eats those things is a gross retard too.

...and let's not forget that smoking makes you look much cooler than shovelling in junk food. I'd call that a plus.

That's because it's the only way some of them get a break, sadly.

This line of reasoning ranks right up there with people who HATE racing because some ass clown did it on the street.

Or hate audiophiles because of some guy with thumping car stereo.

Or hate gun collectors because someone got murdered with a gun.

Or hate black people because one of them wears his pants around his knees.

Or hate Walmart shoppers because some of them are stupid.

Or hate...you fill in the blank.

Hating an entire group of people because of the irresponsible actions of a few is never a good thing. Self righteous comes to mind.

Mad_machine, I'm glad your car survived with minimal damage. I'd be majorly pissed if it was mine.

From the racing, music listening, gun owning, black people liking, Walmart shopping, smoker.

Just stating my observation. At the risk of being branded racist or biased against the elderly, most of the people I see are either Asian or, well, old. "Elderly Asian" seems to be the sweet spot for smoking like a chimney.

Truth. And sadly most of the smokers have abused it with needing 3 more breaks then the 2 or 3 they already get and taking another 15 min each break to suck down the smoke from their cancer stick. The hospitals/health care facility are to blame for it also by making their campus or facility smoke free. That just means even MORE time for the employee to be away from their position.

When I'm done with nursing school, I'm picking up the habit. I'm going out there to hold on to the cigarette for 5 min, put it out, and walk back in without ever inhaling.
