Mr. Corvair had some interesting things to say about BHO: http://i3.democracynow.org/2008/6/18/ralph_nader_on_barack_obama_it

Mr. Corvair said:... RALPH NADER: Well, I think Barack Obama is in training to become panderer-in-chief. That was really a disgraceful speech. It didn’t further the peace process, the two-state solution favored by a majority of Jewish Americans, Arab Americans, a majority of Israeli and Palestinian people. He basically sided with the militaristic approach to occupying, repressing, colonizing, destroying the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza. He hasn’t even spoken out against the international crime of the blockade of Gaza, one-and-a-half million people, from medicine or drinking water, fuel, electricity, food—lots of silent fatalities in Gaza because of that. Barack Obama really now has to be examined very carefully. He has worn out the word “change.” We now want to know what change is involved. And it’s quite clear that he is a corporate candidate from A to Z. In his voting record, he voted against reform of the Mining Act of 1872, which gives away our hard rock minerals. He voted for a terrible class-action restriction law that the corporations wanted him to vote for. He, in many ways, has disappointed people who had greater hopes for him. He’s voted for reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act. He refuses to even discuss—he’s vigorously against impeachment of Bush and Cheney. He won’t even support his colleague Senator Russ Feingold motion to censure the Bush administration for systemic repeated illegal wiretaps. He—you know, he’s letting the corporate-dominated city of Washington, the corporations who actually rule us now in Washington, determine his agenda. And that does not augur well. He’s just appointed economic advisers right out of the Robert Rubin school of Citigroup and the University of Chicago. His Middle East advisers involve people who actually helped write his AIPAC speech. You know, it’s a sad thing to see, because he knows better, but he’s suppressing himself repeatedly until he becomes a different person, should he be elected president. ....

scappes, I don't vote for people with stated goals of disarming me. That leaves the D's out. I've voted for I's before and may again. So, did you vote for Reagan when he ran against the Worst President Ever (who's mess we are still cleaning up) or when he ran unopposed?

Then you will be relieved to know that he isn't against gun ownership. I voted for Reagan because of his stated conservative fiscal views. I voted against him because he didn't live up to those statements. There hasn't been a credible Republican presidential candidate since then except maybe Bush Sr.

Carter has no chance at being the worst president now. :) Maybe the most ineffective but not by far the worst.

Obama carries himself well. He speaks well. He comes across as a rather level headed individual.

Then you look at his platform.

Entitlements ad nauseam, a biggie is we gotta bail people out of those mortgages they signed knowing that with an ARM the payments could skyrocket overnight. Or that they had borrowed more than the house was worth, in short living beyond their means. Of course, I forget that was the fault of the evil mortgage banks who were so dastardly as to do what Congress said: make it easier for people with crappy credit to buy houses.

Change- Change what? Why? No real meat or substance, just 'change'. If someone tells me 'things are gonna change' they need to tell me what and why.

Meeting with every little tinpot dictator with no prerequisites: I suppose that means he can meet with Chavez or Ahm-a-nut-job, both of whom have in the past espoused doing away with the US of A. 'Sup with that? Why legitimize those idiots?

Iraq: pull 'em out quick. (He still hasn't mentioned a date.) So the extremists just have to wait a short time to take over the country and become much more dangerous than ever before. He'll even (eventually) give them a date to wait for. Then of course the rest of the planet will expect us to go in and clean up the mess. Again.

Mistakes:

His wife mumbling something about finally being proud to be an American. Okay, maybe she just hates Shrub. I can understand that, she and hubby are diametrically opposed to Dubya. (Laura Bush came to her rescue, that shows me her depth of character.) So what was wrong with WJC that made her not proud to be an American at that time, since she said she could 'finally' be proud? For the record, I did not care for WJC and was not proud of him but his being President made me no less proud to be an American.

Obama's twisting and turning on his minister's (and self admitted spiritual guide) spouting of 'Hate Whitey' and 'We Deserved 9/11'. stuff. Then he finally jettisons the guy. I gotta agree with one thing the guy said: Obama is a politician first and foremost. That makes him a politically driven flip flopper; no different from the rest of his predecessors or contemporaries, no matter what he says.

There was a car in the shop with an 'African Americans for Obama' sticker, it was a legitimate campaign sticker. Hmmm. So far I haven't seen a 'Caucasian Americans for McCain' sticker (and the Trooper would be riddled with bullet holes if there was such a thing on it). This shows me he ain't afraid to play the race card, no matter what he says.

'Change', my ass. All we'd see under O is an increase in entitlements; same as with every other President and Congresscritter lining their nests at our expense. With McCain at least we'd hear something close to reasonable concering our future in Iraq.

I've never been to College, unless you count tech school, where I was surrounded by Republican leaning mechanics and proto-mechanics. So I can't really speak for the views of academia. I dragged my lazy ass down to the local election office to vote for Obama in the Ohio primaries. I've never bothered about the primaries until then.

I'm a cynical man. Should you ask me why I vote I will likely tell you that I vote just so I have the right to bitch about it later.

I'm also a working class white boy from Indiana corn country, and here's why I supported Obama.

Number One with a bullet-

Bush Clinton Bush Clinton? WTF is that? Are we a monarchy now? No, eff that, I'm voting Obama.

I think this is what a lot of people really mean by "voting for change." I used to dig McCain, but now he's sucking all the wrong people off to get elected, so eff him. Poor guy even looks like he KNOWS he sold his soul somewhere down the line. Obama seems like he's got em all where he wants em, and we could use a guy like that steering the ship right now.

Number Two-

Lump me in with the "I'ma vote for the first black President" group.

What I REALLY hope is this: With a black President eminently in place, it'll be just a wee bit harder for a young black man to justify drug slanging and gang banging his way through life by saying that Whitey is keeping him down. "Oh yeah?", I'd like to say, "Well that guy's President, so now what's your excuse?"

Yes, I know Mr BangnSlang WILL have a new excuse. Self-Justification in the face of all is what humans DO, and I have no faith in them. But I want to hear BangnSlang s t r e t c h for the excuse.

In the meantime, some little black kid pondering his future might say "Gee whiz, I COULD be President! What ELSE could I do?" Maybe he'll get himself up instead of thinking he has no options. Better world for everybody by extension.

Seriously, berkeleyit, I'm tired of this race crap. Let's get a big fat nail in that problem's coffin.

Number Three-

I'm voting for the face. Anyone who says "I don't give a damn what the World thinks about us" is a fool. The President is the face of the USA. If the rest of the globe sees an American face, ever, it will likely be his on TV. Or David Hasselhoff's. It's a straight marketing decision, and we have no business ignoring our image.

For the last 8 years Lil Bush has been embarrassing the hell out of everybody in this country. He can't speak, he can barely even TALK. He's pretty much gone out of his way to reinforce every single stereotype that the world has about us. At least he's not fat, but Clinton was, so natch.

To amplify the shame, Bush's apparent stupidity makes it obvious that he is a hand puppet, making us all look weak, since we voted in this dunce ourselves. Nixon may have been a weasel, but he was obviously a SMART weasel, leaving the impression that we as a nation could be relied upon to at least be dirty fighters if we wanted to be. Bush just makes us look too berkeleying dumb to defend ourselves, massive military or no. He leaves the impression that we can be fooled into sending the war machine roaring over Thataway, whilst they shank us in the back from over Thisaway, so to speak.

So now we need a drastic change of face. Whole completely different guy. McCain's not drastic enough, so it's gonna have to be Obama. Let them keep guessing with that guy on the screen.

Number Four-

All politicians are conniving sellouts, period. So's Obama, I'm sure. You don't get within even arms reach of the Presidency without pulling some fast ones. That said, people are trying pretty hard to find the skeletons in his closet, and all they can find is weak sauce.

His pastor said some messed up E36 M3? Is that ALL? Are you serious? What pastor doesn't sneak bullpucky into the sermon? Personally, I'd rather vote in an irreligous Prez, but the rest of 'Murca won't go for that, so I'll take what I can get. This guy doesn't seem to take religion too seriously, which means that separation of church and state might actually stand under his watch.

Whatever gets dug up on him ends up being some pissant crap. It gets bugled about in the media as if it were a smoking gun, but then you look at the facts and say to yourself, "Is that IT? Is that ALL? THIS is the damning evidence you dug up? REALLY?"

Compared to the average pol, the guy is squeaky clean. Compared to Nixon-with-a-vadge Clinton, he was a no-brainer. He just cannot be for real, and I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, but even then it'll show that he's at least got the smarts and cleverness that George W. Clownshoes obviously didn't. Truth, the guy doesn't need to rent a brain like Bushie-poo does, and that's a good thing.

Other people in other countries have a complacent little picture of us as a people, and who we are. It's about time we shake that up a little and make 'em think twice by handing the wheel to a black guy named Obama. If we're gloriously lucky it will piss off the English even more, and maybe I'll get to hear something funny about it on the next season of Top Gear.

Number Five-

Pure cussedness on my part. Like I said, I grew up in the only state to ever elect an open Klansman as Governor. And you can tell, especially if you've lived there a while. Frankly, I just can't wait to see the looks on their grumpy white faces when a negro gets elected President.

Yeah, you'll hate it, won't you, you Indiana trailer turds. Everything's the gubmint's fault. Well chew on this new one. Nigger President. How'd you like that? Clawed his way up to President and everything, used all his opportunities while you blew most of yours, so now what's your scraggly white excuse for failure? Yeah, whatever, go tend your meth lab before it explodes.

What's worse, your kids will LOVE it like they love Tupac Shakur, and they won't shut up about it either. Go chew your sour grapes down at the unemployment office with your buddies while you run around on welfare for your "bad back", and just in case you didn't understand me?

F*ck you.

So yeah, not ALL of us Obama voters are goggle-eyed dreadlocked white college kids, or rich lefties with a guilt complex. I've got no shame in being white. We've done a LOT of things that others can't seem to get it together to do, like cross entire oceans in rickety little sailboats just because, and MAKE it. Or knock down mountains (Mountains!) just because we want a highway through there. We've done well enough, and the current African leaders can still make us look like saints.

I don't expect Obama to just make everything better overnight, and yes I WILL pay more attention to my local, Senate, and House elections, thank you very much. Whoever said on this board that those were the truly important elections to us little people knew what was up.

McCain might get me to change my tune, but he probably won't. They guy already knows he's beaten, and not by Obama either, but by the system he's in. You can see it in his eyes. Not good. It's a crying shame, since I'd rather have a man who's REALLY seen war in charge of a country supposedly at war. But he doesn't seem like the man for the job to me. It should pan out well for him to remain Senator, in fact. In ten years, when Obama's gone, McCain will, I hope against hope, still be in a voting position to tell the armchair generals what it's really about with authority.

Hell, I won't mind too much if my side gets shouted down and McCain takes it anyway. He's got the puppet strings on him right now, he knows it, he's not too happy with it. But this is a guy who survived bamboo shoots under his nails. If he gets the nod, I can see him getting pissed off, ripping those puppet strings away, and putting his foot up all the right asses. The military will have his back. He's been to hell and back in a uniform himself, and he's a good man. This war thing won't be just a big silly game to him, and that's gonna tell. I think he loves this country, and I don't think he'll be real easy to scare. Some Congressman yelling and shaking papers and making little threats can't back you down too much when you've been where McCain has.

This is great, because I just realized that the American people can't come out of this too bad, no matter how it goes.

And if I get kicked off the board for using the n word, well, I understand completely, I won't be angry, I spoke my peace, and I have no regrets.

Man, oh man, am I looking forward to this election.

Yeee Haw.

Good God, thanks for the best laugh of the week. Reagan traded arms to Iran to get the hostages out. He cut and ran from Lebanon. He did about one thing right, bombing Libya.

McCain isn't keeping a low profile, he says something stupid nearly every day. For some reason the main news programs are giving him a pass.

As for Russia, he happened to be the president that was in at the end of the US outspending them into the ground. Luck not skill.
