It seems like you forgot to go to all the good states on the east coast. The further south you go the better (except for the heat and bugs).

The only way a toll road should be legal is if gas stations located near it are allowed to sell tax free fuel to use on it...
Ain't no wonder Pa. is known as 'The Land of Taxes'. They get ya comin' or goin'.
Pa. turnpike opened in 1940 and was known as America's first super highway. Most of the highway route was built on an abandoned intrastate rail line project that was cancelled.... in the 1880's. Some of the tunnels in use today were originally bored by the railroad but enlarged for the highway.
But w/ the constant construction they may end up w/ a new highway.... in another twenty years.
Why Pa. keeps polishing that turd is beyond me.

The time to stop at Krispy Kreme is when the lights are flashing. I gave up Dunkin Donuts years ago, but the coffee ain't bad.
Not sure about DD, but KK had to change the recipe due to legislation that eliminated lard. That and the Adkins Diet fad almost killed them.
People from NYC are different, but it extends outward as well.
When I moved from NY to NC, I had a bit of culture shock. People at the bank would make small talk with the teller about their kids or dogs or whatever while a line was building up behind them. I found it horribly rude (and still do).
Different areas of the country have different social norms. You just have to accept it and move on.

I don't know how PA can have a reputation for taxes when it borders on New Jersey. Luckily, going to school in Philadelphia, it's a quick ride across the bridge to get the only two commodities that New Jersey doesn't screw you for tax wise, alcohol and gas.

Pa is known for taxes because they tax near everything.
When I lived there.. I did not even own.. I had taxes taken out for the school system... at least in NJ, that was done through property taxes.
The school system had their OWN tax office where you paid
New Hampshire targets the small strip of roads leading from MA to ME for tolls.
Personally, I think all tolls on Interstates should be outlawed, or the states should have to give up the federal funding they get for maintaining them.
Pa. may tax nearly everything, but folks still come from the "Triple Cities" area of nearby New York state to buy clothes in Pa.
Property and income are taxed heavily in Pa. I don't believe food is taxed, or taxed all that heavily. (I haven't lived there in a long time, just visit relatives, occasionally). In Tenn. Food in many areas is taxed as high as 8%.
yeah but if I've not been mislead Tenn doesn't have income tax...

Shortening is pretty much all trans fat. It's way worse for you than lard (mostly saturated fat). Neither have been legislated out of existence (though thanks to big [cooking] oil, anything marked 0g of trans fat can really have 0.5gs...bullE36 M3).
Sorta like how margarine was marketed as a healthy option to saturated fat filled butter, when it turned out saturated fat was alright and trans-fat will flat out solidify your heart.
