"A significant event at Fairchild occurred on June 20, 1994 when Dean Mellberg, an ex-Air Force member entered the base hospital and shot and killed five people and wounded many others. Mellberg had been discharged after failing psychological evaluations by base psychologists Maj. Thomas Brigham and Captain Alan London. At the time of the shooting, Fairchild's hospital was an ungated facility. The gunman, armed with a Chinese-made MAK-90, an AK-47 clone [1] entered the office of Brigham and London and killed both men. Mellberg continued to move through the hospital, injuring and killing several people, including 8-year-old Christin McCarron. The gunman then walked out of the building into the parking lot, where after killing Anita Linder, was confronted by Security Policeman, Senior Airman Andy Brown. From approximately 70 yards away, Brown ordered Mellberg to drop his weapon. After Mellberg refused, from a kneeling position Brown fired four shots from his 9mm pistol, two rounds hitting the perpetrator in the head and shoulder, killing him[2]. After an investigation it was concluded that Airman Brown was justified in his actions, saving countless lives, and was awarded the Airman's Medal by President Clinton."
70 yards with 9mm ball from a Beretta P9! This information is available from other sources besides Wiki.
Look up Air Force people killed in Iraq. Apparently they put those comfy desks outside the bases.

I was a SP at Eglin when we had a hospital shooting in 92 and had worked the shift previous to the incident. Angry dependent husband with a hunting rifle shooting at people around the emergency room entrance. He was shot by a SP and was the only one killed, thankfully.

While what you say is true, your point would have been better served if you hadn't used a NAVY F-14 pic.

hmmmm my mistake, I thought the star shield under the cockpit was AF?

First two pics didn't come in, but AC-130 H/U for the mother of all wins.
In reply to 4cylndrfury:
As far as I can tell, the Stars and Bars under the cockpit is Navy only, depending on the camo scheme in use at the time.

At least somebody gets to shoot guns. R. Lee wouldn't count this cannon for every member of the squadron, even though the total number of rounds might be right.
My favorite aircraft mounted cannon-A little smaller, but still very effective. Bonus- It's on a helicopter!

Woohoo! I loves me some AC-130! If I hadn't passed the DLAB, one of the jobs I listed was Aerial Gunner. Most of those guys go on the HH-60 Pavehawk, but some of them get to fire that big 105mm Howitzer from the 130. Mmmm...gunpowder.
Congradulations. As a 15 year Army guy, expect some ribbing from the other services, but serving is serving, thanks.
Eglin, Hurlburt (Sorta part of Eglin), and Duke Field (Part of Eglin and where the Vietnam era gunships are kept) are full of AC-130s. Summer nights we would hear what sounded like one long loud fart across the base. That would be the minigun firing. If they were on one of the closer ranges we could see the tracer line. Cool stuff.
Hey, welcome to the family! Glad to hear you didnt join Security Forces like i did...haha. From what i hear the AF is good, but i dont really know the true AF. us cops are pretty much abandoned by the af and treated like the army (currently in Iraq on an army tasked mission actually...) but hey w/e haha. Have fun and good luck in basic and their new 8 week deal going on. Oh, and the 320th Gators are the best in BMT regardless of what anyone else says

Hey! im an Eglin SF member now. we just had another shooting recently, march 09, dont know if you heard about it. happened out on the range. I miss that base- pretty much all law enforcement... http://www.wjhg.com/home/headlines/41380587.html I worked swing shift that day (the previous shift).
And who ever thinks AF doesnt shoot guns-im a turret gunner on a Humvee. In my turret alone i got my 240B, M4, M9, and a pistol grip remmington shotgun w/less then letal rounds...so... yea. Other career fields maybe, but not all of them!
If you are in the Military, you may be asked to "shoot a gun"
I was US Navy, Tactical Environment (Weather and Oceanography) Even though I spent a great deal of time sitting in an air conditioned office, I was for a while assigned to the 15th Marine Expaditionalry Unit. I supported the forward spotting officer. I did PA /DA (helocopter people will know about that) and Radar Refraction summeries, as well as Laser predict summeries.
In 1988 (peacetime remember) While doing a Beach recon (surf hight, duration and depth) on Lombok Island (right next to Bali island) We had "Positive contact" with the local militia (groups forcable converting villages and towns to Communism, ok that is what we called them but they were Muslim military units not communists). We exchanged hot rounds for the better part of 20 minutes, 8 of us, about 20 of them. they had small arms and we had SAW weapons so it was more like us chasing them back into the nearby forrest. I went through 400 rounds in my M-14, then 21 rounds in my Remmington Shotgun, and when I hopped back on the helocopter for our ride out I had 4 rounds left in my Colt 1911A.
the world is a berkeleyed up place and if you deploy, chances are you will see some E36 M3.

I'll proudly eat those words. Good on you, Airman. Keep your head down and come back safe!

I don't regret getting out but sometimes I really miss Eglin. I had a lot of good times there (and some really crappy ones, sometimes).
