Well, maybe not.
Cataracts found in both eyes today. It's a congenital thing as both parents and even my younger sister have all had the same issues. Ironically, sis just had her first eye done yesterday.
No worries about the procedure or the outcome (for her or me). But, I still have to pay out-of-pocket and that's what irks me. C'est la vie.

Health insurance/vision won't cover that? Seems unfair to me.
Who do you have insurance through? Most accounts i work with cover it, or at least a portion.
No insurance, with reasons for which I take full responsibility. It's my bed; I make it; I sleep in it......
Medicaid may be an option as I just barely qualify but I still have to go through the application and acceptance process.
Time and money will tell.
My wife has had one eye done, totally out of pocket at 3800.00. No insurance. Now the other is going, need to work harder. Good thing is that recovery is quick and mainly painless.
I'm going to assume that you have the vision to wait to go through the medicaid acceptance thing. At $3800/eye, cwh pointed out, I'd do my hardest to cross the Ts and dot the "i"s to get the coverage.
Be glad that the fix is where it is now, and you are not worrying about this 10 years ago. AND you caught it now (My brother-in-law will be going for surgery on his in the autumn, and in the meantime has eye drops that, he is told, slow down the advancement of it. You might want to talk to your MD about this.) Good luck, and, if Medicaid says no; apply again--can't hurt, and often helps.

I'm not sure where you live, but here in the NW, a lot of folks go up north to have eye procedures done for less. Just a thought. Also, maybe a MAJOR college that specializes in eye care may have a reduced cost clinic. Kinda GRM medical care?

Keeping my fingers crossed on the Left Coast for you here. I second the suggestion to look for a teaching school; I worked at UNC Chapel Hill's dental school once upon a time, and they were great about giving dental care to folks who weren't otherwise insured. It's worth checking into.
