Abour 15 minutes ago, our dog, Jazzie, who is an 18 pound Doxie, signalled it was time to go outside. I let him out and flipped on the patio light. He immediatly took off after something. Usually it's the little lizards, but this time it was much bigger and hopped. Oh E36 M3, a bufo toad. These things are so poisonous that if a dog bites one or even licks it, it will put the animal into respiratory arrest, leading to a horrible death. Haven't seen one in two years, but had a big one now. After a few minute hunt in the back yard, the toad was very dead and was in a plastic bag in the trash. I HATE those damned things. They can be common here, have any one else seen them in their yards? What do you do with them? Licking is not a valid answer.

Poisonous toads in south Florida. Who da thunk it. If they are like the toads around here, bugs attracted by a porch light and the heat supplied by concrete steps will attract them. Turn off the lights and the bugs and toads will probably move on.

Did your dog try to eat it? I remember learning in JROTC class that if you are attacked by a poisonous animal, you should try to kill it so it can be identified and the appropriate antivenin can be used. Maybe a trip to the vet with the toad is needed?

My dog used to be a stray, so he'd eat spiders and toads whenever he got outside. Once he brought a toad in the house and let it go. Then another time he burped up a monster spider.

Jazzie never got close to it. This old man moved like a pro rassler to get that thing dead, right now. I carried my son's dog into the vet's office 9 years ago after it got ahold of one and came way too close to dieing. They are no joke.

I wouldn't worry. Those giant snakes down there will take care of all the toads......and cats....birds.....and dogs.
