just got home from Mid-Ohio in the wee early hours of the morn...
Ohio seemed to be working awfully hard to make up the revenue deficit Sun.
going up on Thur I saw 3 - 4 st police the entire trip... NC, Tenn, Ky, and Ohio... coming home, saw 13 Ohio Troopers with cars stopped !
didn't see another Trooper until coming into Knoxville
the states coffers should be in much better shape now
One possible route from here to new england is thru Ohio, I Never go that way for the above stated reason. Also last time I took that route fuel was more expensive there than any where else on the trip.
That always happens on holiday weekends. I usually drive 10 over but on these weekends I drop it to 5.
Yes, it's Labor Day weekend. Highway Patrols always step it up on big holidays. If you're not drinking or speeding you'll probably be just fine.
I've driven from Memphis to N.E. Pa. by the "Ohio route" and the "Va. route". I think the day of the week has a lot to do with how many cops you see. Sometimes, it seems on these trips like I pass 5 or 6 cops of various jurisdictions between Memphis and Nashville....then none between Nashville and Bristol. 1 or 2 in Va., but none in West Va. or Pa. On days where I come back through Ohio, I'll see just as many in Pa. as I see in Ohio.
Aside from day of the week, or proximity to a holiday, whether there is a lot of construction has a bearing, too. Luckily, I-40 has few major construction zones EXCEPT in Nashville and Knoxville, and traffic usually is so bad you can't really speed unless you are trying to get out of a big "knot" of vehicles.

I left Ohio in 1977. The door did NOT hit me in the ass on the way out.

I know a cop from Indianapolis. Even Indy cops think Ohio State Troopers are dicks.
I'm from Ohio, and I can vouch for that.
The FBI and a bunch of other people go to the Highway Patrol graduations and try and recruit. If you get pulled over by a Statie you are getting a ticket 99.9 percent of the time, but they will be polite about it.
on the way there (Thur) my Valentine 1 got very excited about some laser on multiple times.. never saw any po-po... and there weren't any other cars or LED signs anywhere near... figured they were somewhere just couldn't see.. and ya we were running between dead on to 5 over
a new tactic i see a lot here near cincinnati are state boys on harleys under bridges and overpasses in the shadow, dismounted and tucked up against the footer, shooting radar...nearly invisible. just stay in the right lane near overpasses and youll do fine...and the state guys arent half the richards the sheriffs are

In Ohio, we call those "weekends".
The trick, I found, is to drive between 5am and 8am.
Not having out of state plates helps a lot, too.
Not all state patrollers are dicks. I had a night before the race paranoia alert and stopped at the side of I-71 at about 11:30 Friday night to check the lug nuts. I didn't remember torquing them. No sooner did I pull over did I have an officer behind me with his lights on. I explained that I thought my lug nuts were loose and wanted to check them, and he used his flashlight for me.
Turns out he autocrossed a WRX in Toledo. We talked shop for a little bit and then went our separate ways.
