Eat less and exercise.

(But that's not what you want to hear. How about: "Take this magic pill"? That's what everyone wants to hear, and entire industries are built around that.)

Well, I'm 29, 6'-1" and 195lbs and I too feel 20lbs over weight. I have been running two to three times a week for about a month now and havent really lost any weight (averaging about 4-5 miles over an hour on the treadmill). I've come the stark realizating I need to do some sit ups and push ups too. Then just dont eat as much and do more during the summer, but you already new that .

Yeah, eat less and move more. I'm 10 years older and 6" shorter than the OP, and have always had a pretty healthful diet. I also don't own a scale, so when I got on one and discovered that I was up to 215 - holy e36 M3!!

First I tried exercise alone, but that just made me hungry.

The first 10 came off pretty easily. The second 10 were tougher. At 195 now with 170 as a goal.

If you will all just adopt a vegetarian lifestyle you will reap the benefits of a healthy weight and abundant energy and a feeling of well-being and kind feelings to your fellow man. When we torment and slaughter the innocent animals that we eat, it produces in us a blood-lust that embodies itself in hatred and violence toward others.

Just kidding!

I lost 10lbs in the last 3 weeks by switching to diet soda alone.

After 50 days - I was still sore as hell. No arguing that it works though. It works only if you are already in good enough shape to do the first disk... and in possession of the drive to keep going. I started after getting in shape enough to run a half marathon in 1:45 and still... it kicked my ass.

I'd say... not for beginners unless they are some stubborn assed-mofos with no quit in them.

Wait a minute, I'm 5'11" and 205 lbs. Muscle weighs more than fat, right?

With a wedding in our future my wife went to a personal trainer for some tips. Our son's wedding, we're both 57 or so. Trish eats like a bird and can't shake any weight! Come to find out, she needs to eat more!

Change up your exercise, two days of aerobics, two of weight training. Eat five or six small meals a day. Eat something as soon as you roll out of bed even if it's half of a banana. Starving yourself your body says "I'm starving, I'll put this in the bank for later".

She's eating to almost puking but losing weight.

If you're having a tough time losing it now, try it in 15 years.

Dan

Finding what works for you... depends on what you do during the 40+ at work ?

Walking more (My dog helps me with that !) and portion control have a lot of impact with me !

Good Luck

So far I've lost 16 pounds in 2 months. Gave up Diet Cokes/caffeine, starting watching the portion control, started walking and not eating after 6PM if at all possible.

I need to lose about 20 pounds of gut before my cruise in late June. Food poisoning has got me halfway there! (I think that I will gain that back though.)

Wrong. The conventional wisdom from the 1950's until now are flawed. (I agree though, there is no magic pill, I just disagree with Calorie in / calorie out theory of eat less exercise more)

Read "Why we get Fat, and What to do about it" by Gary Taubes.

I am 41 and in 6 weeks I went from 240 to 224, I don't exercise. I am still losing weight and my blood chemistry is the best it has been since I was 25 years old.

OK, Eric. Try it the other way then: Eat more and exercise less. Let's see which way works.

In reply to poopshovel:

I am hooked on high gravity beers. I like them the consistency of molasses with as much alcohol as possible in them. I suspect they might have a few calories in them.

In any case, if I exercise regularly and use some portion control I seem to stay nice and trim whether I am eating high carb, low carb or whatever.
