My favorite part of the post-Challenge glow is sitting down somewhere, eating good food with everyone, and BSing about the dumb stuff we'd like to do next year.

Stampie and nocones entries got me wondering about the feasibility of a Mustang given the LMP360 treatment.

Robbie's BMW got me thinking about the second year iteration of my planned hat car, where I just take the complete body off a Crown Vic and put in a one-person cage with a seat, appropriate controls, and absolutely nothing else.

So, what did you bench build on the way home?

I talked with dad for about half an hour last night about finishing the Funderbird plan and driving the animal out. Most likely for 2024. Barring that, the only way I see for that car to ever get to Gainesville is if I sell it to one of you nut jobs and y'all do the trailer thing.
As far as new projects, I really need a house/permanent garage before I get myself into trouble.

Not Challenge but could be. I am about to drop the coin for floor boards and a generic hot rod wiring harness for my 1974 914. It is clogging up the Toilet and needs to be flushed in a moveable form. Plus it would be sick to be driving it for ice cream or whatever short trip next summer. 230slk blower can wait a bit.

Friday evening I was in the disappointed mindset and said I'm not going to bring Suprang back.  Driving back yesterday I was in a better mindset and especially with the short deadline decided that Suprang wants redemption.  Looking at results this afternoon I realize that of what I have only Lil Bastard and the Model A have a good chance of top 10.  Still torn, Lil Stampie mentioned bringing two.  Maybe Lil Bastard as half budget and Model A at full for 2024 and let Suprang prove itself in 23.

I have an extra z car laying around, a few ls engines, and some DOM, so I plan to slap chop this crap together.

We are going to need to make a grid and use a lot of model rockets.

My only build is decluttering my garage, garage sale coming soon just need to inventory parts.

Only future challenge builds relate using the $40 spitfire in questionable challenge legal applications.

I'm gonna try to bring my gm 3.9 power3d rx8.

Probably only have a decent alignment and some good road legal tires on it.  Maybe nitrous.

Would be in the over 2k class unless I sell some parts and leave some parts off.  We shall see.

Easy. A working engine for the Morris.

I wish that was easy...

And Stampie, I know I won't be the only disappointed person if we don't see the Suprang next year.

I feel like the Type aRgh needs more build. It definitely needs more acceleration as that was the area we didn't touch this year. Definitely manual, maybe a power adder. But that will require luck and strategy to keep within budget as I can't bring myself to gut it.

I'll think more about it once the challenge hangover is through

I mean, gutting and keeping it gutted are two very different things.  Carefully removing everything, bagging and tagging, and labeling where each bolt goes is the way to put it back together after the Challenge.

You miss out on recoup, but you keep the car at a place where you can return it to the same level.

Type aRgh was a favorite this year! You're right-don't gut it!

Here, get this, strip the manual bits, sell off enough to recoup the $500 and then trade the rest for some wheels.

Prep the aRgh as an auto-crosser then add a dry shot of NOS for the 1/4.

Thanks for the appreciation of it. We were really happy how it turned out for being a 60 day clean/repair effort. And even happier it didn't break.

Thanks for the links. I hadn't seen those on my search. Manual is looking doable within budget, and a GRMer may have all the stuff I need at a reasonable price if I can sort out the logistics.
I think it needs one more challenge before it goes out of budget and turbo. My wife was insisting

Saab 9-3 2.0t. They seem to be had super cheap on martketplace in neglected condition. Parts are available and cheap. Very GRM friendly mods and already has the turbski so I'm way ahead.

The only problem is that I'm flat broke right now. Like no McDonalds kind of broke.

I have hopes and dreams of procuring my friends very neglected and poorly carved up S4. It was supposed to be a track car and it was gutted and then taken to a shop where someone started cutting the body out around the wheel wells, friend realized that it was going bad so it was stopped, it has been sitting in the weeds collecting leaves for 4 years since. I see box flares and challenge glory but I am the only person in my circle that sees it....

EDIT: Code name S4RAT, in my country we love box flares.

I really, REALLY want to. The LMP360 has bitten me, and my constant focus on school for my next degree has made me want to focus on something for fun instead of work. I also have a local store that has allowed me to gather parts for next to nothing that could be used.

Problem is, I'm looking for something to speak to me as my first and inspiration is fickle. I'm hoping to learn how some of ya'll find cars so cheap.

Better parts availability (thanks GM Ecotech platform) than the true Saabs like the earlier 9-3 and 9-5, available with the heavy duty F40 6 speed and still tunable with a $50 OBDlink cable and free software

It's all good. We've robbed a few parts off it in the last couple years. Seats, harnesses, battery.... but I still have most of it, and the budget sheet. The car is probably 95% and it kicks me in the gut every time I see it languishing out behind his shop.

I'm going over budget, in the name of not making transmission replacement a maintenance item, and throwing 16-17lb of boost at a fwd BP and G series transmission. I'm also going to ensure that I don't have surgery scheduled the week prior to the challenge, having a pair of functional lungs has already improved stamina though, so I'll be more productive, okay I'll be productive, with regards to getting things accomplished build wise.

Wife insisting is epic!  We need yo find enough budget /time to fix fenders and apply actual auto vinyl vs that crap craft vinyl.
