Oldtin, I can't pm you since I have yahoo.

You've had a few Great Pyrenees before, right? Any recommendations for toys that they like? We can't seem to get Milo, our 8-9 year old rescue, interested in anything but scratches and butt rubs.

Any general tips for experienced dog owners, but new to Great Pyr's?

Some dogs like puzzle games. I don't have a great Pyrenees but we do have a working dog. Dixie gets really interested when I gather up several of her kong toys and put small treats of hot dog or cheese in some of them and then hide them in our fenced yard. Then I ask her to help find them and we explore the yard together. She gets a big charge out of it. If your dog's skin seems overly itchy it may be due to a food allergy.

A gf in college's mom was a breeder of pyr's they weren't big on toys. They enjoyed lazily lounging, shedding, being pet, slobbering, then running when they get outside making you question how they're so lethalic inside at times (except when they romp). They'll gum on some larger antler pieces, they'll rarely entertain a ball but will occasionally play with a stuffed toy.

I have had a few GP. The couple adults I rescued had zero interest in toys other than just piling them up in a corner. The few puppys were turned on to toys since they played with the older dogs that had a toy drive.

In general they are really big lap dogs that generate a whole nother dog when you brush them.

They are great family protectors when a little training has been applied. They were bred for sheep hearding/protecting but seem to be more inclined to holding down carpets and couches incase of an earthquake.

Sounds like he won't be entertained by toys, good to know. New thing to me.

He is getting happier every day we have him, and is starting to eat with less and less cottage cheese mixed in with his food. Good signs, since he is slightly malnourished (his own doing from stress from being at a shelter for too long)
