Torpedo found at construction site
PHILADELPHIA — A police bomb squad had to be called to a Philadelphia construction site after someone found an old, inert torpedo.
PennDOT spokesman Charles Metzger says a transportation department archaeological team found two men sitting on the torpedo drinking beers on Friday morning. He says the men told the archaeologists they had found the munition.
Metzger said the dig team called police, who dispatched a bomb squad. The squad determined the torpedo was not explosive.
The construction site is part of an Interstate 95 interchange project in the city's Kensington neighborhood. It's close to the location of an old shipyard where warships were built during World War II.
Police said no charges were expected.

Depth charges?
Who could possibly be charged

Clearly, those bad beer-drinking men intended to arm said torpedo and fire it down the travel lanes of I-95, causing confusion and delay. The question is, how can they not be charged?

Only in Philadelphia...... Nothing like a few cold ones and some weaponry to start the day.
A lot of that sort of thing going around this week...
ORLANDO, Fla. --
A bomb squad had to blow up a live hand grenade Thursday in Orlando. Investigators were so concerned when it was brought to the police station by an elderly woman that they evacuated the area around Silver Star Road near Willow Bend Boulevard.
The grenade was discovered at a nearby residence. An elderly woman was cleaning out a relative's belongings when she found the 70-year-old military weapon. She wrapped it in a towel and drove it the Orlando police substation. One munitions expert told WFTV she took quite a risk.
Same thing happened here last week.

The additional confusion and delay caused by firing the device would have been only minimal on that stretch of I-95. Because of that, the DA decided that it wasn't worth his time to charge & prosecute the case.
