Speaking of Posi. I think it cost only $30 or so on these cars as an option when they were new.
Ok so in car dad is driving so I can type.
the good. The motor easily makes 400hp and we raved it out to 6800 before it ran out of gas. About 500$ in orange valve covers and a air filter with a 327 sticker and it will look sufficiently vintage. Going to dry ice blast the motor and paint the bits that are scratched and hide the msd. It absolutely does not need a blower but still may get one and just drive it with no hood. It has camel back head and it has hooker headers and it had a cam sticker on the firewall.
It clearly was a full frame off restoration a few years back. Cannot be to far back because the rear and front fenders and flared a tiny bit and it's carbon fiber reinforced same with the zora front end.
Has the hurst shifter inside and the aftermarket tachometer. The tach has to go for sure.not a power steering or brake car but does not need it.
now onto the weird. It has flared drums for heat dissipation in the front. If they are real those are worth bank $$$.
the bad is a few rock chips the wheels are not true knockoff some Italian brand I don't know but yeah those are getting sold. The door striker on the driver side is misaligned but was loose so easy fix. Also I sat in the drivers seat and it just went straight back because a bolt backed out for the seat on the side. Both being addressed by the seller. Also the air cleaner was one of those foam monstrosities and had burn marks on it so yeah that's bad.
all in all very surprised at the deal. Lots of photos when it gets home and put on the lift so I can find the bad that I missed during the inspection.
on the interior ever
wearymicrobe said:It is so much better then the photos. So I bought it. Getting loaded up as we speak.
needs a door striker adjustment and a seat is busted but it was a full of 70s style build so some weird stuff like a leather pleated roof.
photos soon.
I'm so excited for the leather pleated roof.
I didn't notice before but I see now the rear wheel wells have been radiused - you'll need to come up with a tire/wheel combo that's big enough to fill them out.
33 inch Mickey thompsons on centerline auto drags. Stuff that motherberkeleyer like the 70s street freak she is!
Well shipper is stuck in la. Not going to get the car till Wednesday. Was supposed to get trailer up north and drop it off in San Diego but the winds are out of control and it did not feel safe. Of course if they pick it up on Wednesday it's supposed to pour all day.
Have it out on the dispatch for pickup to see if anybody else can grab it today. Meetings from 2:00 till about 5:30 so for to get to work.
Car got picked up and then the driver is going to LA then he is heading down to San Diego around 8:00pm and is going to crash in his truck in my driveway.
So it got here. It definitely needs work. Not money but work.
Cleaned the carb out and set the idle, did a quick walk around to see what I need to order. ~200$ later on amazon most of what I need to get it road worthy and most of all safe. Its been sitting, sitting a lot more then I though it was when I bought it. I spent a good while tracking down what I thought was a bearing crunching noise only to find the alternator belt was so crunchy it was what was making noise. It had 14psi in the tires when I test drove it, the oil levels were low. Its weird it still has the stock 1406 carb jets and metering rods in the carb. It's a 327 maybe that is all it needs. It was set to idle at 600 rpm which with a cam just made it sound like it always wanted to die. Set it at 900 and much happier. Battery was completely dead but tested out just fine so its on the trickle charger.
So oil change tomorrow morning, actual throttle return springs go on, carb is soaking just to be safe as we speak, it looked like the car was running very rich but it might just be dirty as the air cleaner which was foam had a big hole in it and it was dropping foam into the carb. Plugs look ok though. Stumbling a lot but the gas must be years old at this point. Brake drums are adjusted way way to tight. You can lock the car up with a toe. Likely they will drag when I get some real heat in them.
So its getting a major service. All fluids tomorrow. I pulled the passengers side wheels off and its just immaculate under there. Best guess someone had it and finished the restoration and died. Even the paper on the shocks looks new.
Longer term as in this weekend I am lowering the rear 1.5 inches and lowering the front 1.5 with a coil cut to stiffen the car up and then I get to chase all the little gremlins. Still debating doing a full sound deadening kit on the inside but they glued the carpet down. Seats rock pretty bad as well.
Also not real knockoffs. Put they look kind of 70s with the covers removed. Definitely need to find something for them that look more vintage or at least fit with the cars style better. WIth the wheels coming off and on for all the service I am keeping the covers off just to keep them safe. Might put them back on but want to flip the tires to the black lettering.

Digging the 70's vibe and keen to see more pictures illustrating it.
Edelbrock 1406 is what the 500cfm one? So many small blocks get immediately over carburetted 500 sounds small, but I bet for a mild-to-hot 327 it's about right.
Sounds like a good score, enjoy!

This, so many 327s that came into our shop with drivability issues were overcarbed. Once the original got tired a lot of them I've seen ended up with 750 Holleys instead of rebuilding them then all sorts of bandaids to keep them running.
I'll go against people saying torque thrust for the wheels..
Find some halibrand lookalikes in the right bolt pattern/backspacing.

1406 is the 600cfm one though I hear its more like 550 in reality. It runs really well on the carb and it idles really well even with the cam so I think its actually decently sized. I use the 1406 a lot so I have jets, metering rods and springs in just about every single configureation ever made as I bought one of the master tuning kits a while back with everything.
So I was excited last night and pulled the seats and found that the seat track bushings were completely shot. So I got some plastic tubing that was the same size and used that in the front positions and then just wrapped the ones that had wear in nylon thread to build up some more material so that they went back together. Cleaned everything up and lubed it and it went back together and now no more rocking.
Also but air in the tires . Through some chase lube down all the vent pulls to loosen them up over the next couple days. Going to put it on the lift tonight when I get home and start the fluids and put fresh gas in it.
If it's been sitting for a long time, you may want to take a look at the rag joint in the steering column to make sure it's not dried out/sloppy/original.

That's my vote too. There's noting wrong with Torque-Thrusts, but they seem to get put on everything.
How about those American Racing 200s wheels? Similar aesthetic properties as the Torq Thrust without being them.

that's just cause they look so blame good.
So there is so much wrong with this car. and so much right. I am playing archeologist here but if I had to take a guess it was built by someone they died and some shop then punched it together as fast as possible for sale. Its just so lovingly built in some area's with good parts with good installation and then just a MSD box riveted to inside body. Motor has amazing heads and runs like a top but they put a 1406 carb on top and tuned in between sniffing glue.
Ok no photos yet but so far as I took a half day and just cranked all this out plus a few hours last night.
So drove it a solid 25 miles today and it really is a fun car. Still has some things I need to fix like the gauge gauge and the turn signal fell off in my hand which will take hours to fix. Horn ring still does not work even after some testing. Horn does work when I ground it out manually. Cannot figure out for the life of me how the vents actually work and which ones are open or closed.
After putting 9K miles on my thunderbird I know every single little flaw in how it handles and how it wants to be driven. This is a whole different kettle of fish. The clutch actually works and can be slipped, the doors close properly, the shifter is a amazing. Having syncos in all four gears is amazing, just have four gears is fantastic. But I still have not had time to really gel with it and it feels different and off somehow like I am missing something. So this weekend I am checking the alignment and likely ordering wheels and modern tires for it.
Car is also currently disgusting. It smells like trans fluid and has hand marks and dirt everywhere. It needs a full day detail and a ceramic coating after I do some paint polishing
Decided on these. They are direct bolt on. Tire code dates are 2014 so that is good enoguh for me for a cruiser.
So white letters in or out. That is the question when I mount them
here is an old movie clip of a 65 corvette racing a Porsche up in the hills ,
