wow, this one is nice!

I saw that as well. There was a red I liked better a couple weeks ago not sure if it's still there.
Edit; Not the one I was thinking of but this one is $8k cheaper.

Lower mileage early ones seem to hover around $30k-$40k on this side of the country, but I've seen asking prices as high as mid-sixties for late low mileage ones.
I'd stay away from a rebuilt title one unless the owner can prove it's been done right (bodywork on these is stupidly expensive to repair). With a '91 I'd also want to make sure the transmission has either been replaced or isn't in the snap ring range.
Like a cheap Porsche, a cheap NSX can become a very expensive headache really quickly.

berkeleying automatics! Who the hell buys an NSX and says, this is great, but does it come with an automatic transmission?

Not an NSX, but... same general principle.
When my SO went to buy her RX8 we talked to a sales droid and mentioned that the new tires the dealership had put on were complete pieces of Chinese off-brand junk and were not sufficient for a sports car. He said it didn't matter and the dealership would not put on better tires because most people just bought a car like that so that they could look cool parking it in their office parking lot. That's why he had his automatic RX8. We informed him that was not us.
There's always a few sissies out there. Back in da day, MG offered a Borg Warner 3 speed automatic in the MGB's but very few were sold. A few MGC's snuck through with slushboxes too. There are dark tales of a prototype Jensen Healey with an automatic also, I personally think that is a story meant to frighten small children on stormy nights.

E36 M3 didn't even read the add.
I would have an automatic NSX...if I lost my left leg in a tragic bear hunting accident.

If I was able to buy a car like the NSX or a Porsche, I would settle for nothing less than Michelins. No question after working at a tire shop and road forcing tires all day.

they are .... the red one is a "rebuilt" title .... another name for a salvage title

This. The aluminum body panels are $$$$$$
Mine has a salvage title, didn't have any frame damage, it didn't even need an alignment after it was "totaled".
The black one has no A/C but is "a cheap $170 fix?" Why would someone seling a car for almost $25k not want to repair the climate control? Maybe NOT a $170 fix?
The capacitors go bad in the climate control, it really is a $150-200 fix. Why they wouldn't spend that to have it fixed is beyond me, a lot of NSX owners are a bit off kilter.
For $25k I think I'd find something else. I liek the NSX, but there's just so much better/faster/nicer cars for that money.

It's not only NSX owners, I see this often out here with other cars - "blah blah broken, only $100" fix. Which always makes me think "why don't you fix it then before putting the car up for sale, eh?".

I think the reasoning here (and i'm guilty of this) is that if i fix it, then something happens and i have to keep it, or just plain old nobody buys it, i've wasted money fixing something that i couldn't care less about being broken.
A/C and Power Steering rank very high on the list of things that fall in that category for me.

Or they've never had to fix anything on their reliable supercar, and don't know how to go about it.

I can see that, but the problem for me is that if you put in the "really cheap repair" part in the ad, that tends to set off alarm bells with me because my reaction is always "what sort of expensive fault is this hiding then" or "what other cheap precautions didn't the owner take".
Just stating that X doesn't work is different IMHO, it's the "oh it's really easy to fix" part that tends to get me. Plus, I look at it making the effort to make the car easier to sell - the "won't fix it in case nobody buys it" might turn into a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Mind you, friends like buying vehicles from me because this here idiot spent a lot of time and money fixing those little annoying niggles and a few big ones along the way.
