I think I want something different - DD duty - non project, "sort of professional" image, but don't have to tote people around. Gas mileage - not looking for a pig, but doesn't have to hit moped levels either. I love classics, but live in the rust belt and already have storage issues...I have 2 track cars. It probably won't see an auto-x course, but spend a couple of hours a day commuting so I don't want to be bored either. Replacement for an e36 that I'm starting to get tired of looking at.
Well I was going to say E36 but...

hmm, saab might be interesting. Was thinking e46 might be in the range and I've still got a soft spot for e28s. I love the way the ti drives, but it's been annoying on the amount of down time it's had in the last 3 years - I guess the good news for a new owner is that I've fixed about everything that's likely to go wrong with it in the next 100k miles (latest will be a new clutch in the next couple of weeks).

Get a proper SAAB, a 9000 Aero. 5K should get a very well kept example with low mileage.
Or it's counterpart from the other Swedish company. 850 T5R, I prefer mine in the estate version

Always thought both of those were awesome.
