Guess it goes to show there's no one right answer. I'd say never stay ON property, it's a waste of good money.

It really depends. If you go during the right season, you can get such a good deal on everything that you couldn't camp on the side of the road for less. We tend to go during the off season whenever possible. We haven't stayed on property, but we won't stay anywhere but the monorail resorts when we do.

That is why we are going when we are going. A week before, add a grand. The week after, add $500......

It's also why we go for my birthday (Dec. 9th) instead of my wife's birthday (Dec. 27th). On my birthday, the parks are practically empty, and you still get the Christmas stuff. For the most part, we go because she wants to go. I'd usually rather spend the money on other things or go other places.
Once you're forced to go so many times, you learn what you do like. I like to people watch, and any park is a great place to do that. I sit near a "cast member" and listen to the E36 M3 that guests ask. It reminds me why I would never work there, but it's always good for teh lulz.
