Ouch...

Just had a heavy truck jack stand let go from it's highest position while I was setting it up. Took a big bite out of my thumb and forefinger on my right hand. The rest of today is gonna be all kinds of fun...

Ouch, indeed. I've had enough close calls that I'm paranoid about that happening. I usually try to set up the stand and set the safety lock before I position it under the car. And I never grab it at the junction of the base and support. When removing stands, I usually pull the safety, release the catch and let the support slam into the base... just to remind myself of what it could do to flesh.

You'll find out who your true friends are when you have to go to the bathroom.

Super yowch. I've been bitten quite a few times by stupid jackstands, fortunately never as hard as your case, but enough times that I handle them like they're made of plutonium these days. My failure mode is to pinch the webbing between my thumb and forefinger when letting the stands down after the work is done. Evil contraptions.

I have a nice fat blue blister on the palm of my hand from a set of tin shears to help me picture your thumb.

I got to take out some of my frustration on a durango hub with a 5lbs sledge just now, so I sort of feel better. Got to beat on it for a good 5 minutes as hard as I could to get it off the shackle. It's a bitch working with a few useless fingers though.

Washing my hands definitely sucks today. Especially the scrub brush.

This has been a bad week for hand/wrist injuries for me. First, I slammed my wrist into the ground after pulling a broken swaybar endlink off as hard as I could. It was even better that the rest of the assembly followed my hand to the ground and crushed it. Then, my german shepherd grabbed my wrist hard while she was trying to sneak a frisbee out of my hand. Now, that stupid jack stand got me. My lift made a somewhat unsettling bang while I was lifting up the aforementioned durango, so maybe it'll fall on me and I can stop worrying about my hands lolz.

I can't wait for this week to be over.

I should have been killed at least 5 times by jack stands and my own stupidity.

I was just watching Extreme Makeover. The British carpenter showed his recent scar (Three months old) from a 4" angle grinder that almost took his hand off. Had a blade made from chainsaw thingys for wood sculpturing. He took the blade guard off. It took a kick. Damage was extreme. I have always thought those were the most dangerous power tools in the world. Several nasty scars of my own.

My dad has everyone beat for stupid hand injuries. Several months ago he was carrying a toilet and tripped. He fell down about 5 steps and shattered the toilet. A sharp edge cut clean thru the palm of his hand slicing every tendon and nerve. His fingers were pointing straight back at a 90 degree angle to his hand. Blood everywhere. After the surgery, and subsequent imobilization, the tendons fused to the transition area between the palm and the wrist. Now when he tries to close his fingers, you see the tendons flex in his arm and the thin skin on his wrist start to pull up towards his elbow, but the fingers barely move. The doc is going back in next month to free everything up. The grand kids have been having a good time with it. They keep calling him things like lobster man and grand-paw. He has a history of this kind of stuff. I've seen him shoot nails into his thigh and hands. Saw his thumb after it got stuck in a circular saw. 4 days after the saw incident we were partners in a 4 man best ball golf tournament. Yea we lost big time that day. But the absolute best was one day we were setting some scaffolding near the power lines and his cell phone went off in his pocket when it was on vibrate only. Startled him so bad he jumped off a 20 foot scaffolding to the sidewalk below.

Do NOT go on a job site with him again.
