Ever since this whole lock down started, my wife has been working 6 days a week at the grocery store. She works in the cash office/front end. At one point she worked something like 56 days in a row because so many employees opted to stay home and collect the extra 600 plus unemployment. They were making close to what my wife was making working all those hours. Over the summer they were able to hire enough college kids to get by, but they are all heading back to school. 4 of them gave notice this week in her dept alone. Flash forward to today, and she walks in to a note from the one girl that would come in on Saturday and cover the cash office for her. Yesterday was her last day. She worked full time at a day care center plus the one day a week at the grocery store. Her reason for leaving was the fact that since she has been collecting unemployment plus the extra for all these months plus her one day a week at the store. The extra income has enabled her to save enough money to the point where she now considers herself financially stable and can quit the part time job. Oldest daughter works at the big donut chain. She goes to college full time but works there on weekends. I drop her off this morning at 6 and there are 4 other employees hanging out in the parking lot. Nobody showed up with a key. Run home and get her key. Turns out both manager and assistant manager quit. Apparently the guy that was suppose to open at 4am quit too. They have been going thru employees, and managers in particular at an astounding rate.
