Uh... Discuss.
I liked this quote from the comments below the original article
"Travis Pastrana jumps double backflip.
Travis Pastrana jumps 267 feet in rally car.
Travis Pastrana jumps the shark."
LOL. It will be amusing to see what RedBull and TP Inc allow him to do with a NASCAR. He's already done silly things in every other sport he's tried.... maybe winning a race in reverse?
Pastrana is known for doing some pretty extreme things, but when it's time to race, he gets all serious and figures out how to be competitive.

Undoubtedly so. I watched him race LSPR a few years ago- and watching his technique vs. any of the other drivers was just staggering. Ken Block wasn't even driving as well as he was. The man is gifted with motorsports ability like few others.

I saw him race at this year's NEFR and even spoke to him a couple of times. He's just about the nicest person on the planet and the man can drive. I was hoping to see him race again at next year's NEFR. This will hurt rally's rise as a motorsport in the US when all of his fans jump to NASTYCAR.

...they won't. As awesome as rally is, that's how bland NASCAR is--Travis or no Travis.
Image-wise, I think it's a bit of a dumb move. He'll make a fortune, though.
TP via Twitter said: Well its official, I'm headed to NASCAR! I'm a team owner and driver of the newly formed Pastrana-Waltrip Racing team. Can't wait!!

They will for a little while, at least until they realize how boring it is to watch. He has plenty of clad-from-head-to-toe-in-DC-apparel fans who followed him from motocross to rally, and they will follow him to NASCAR. I was hoping he would stay on in rally but I guess the bad ol' boys don't want him to double-dip. I'm still a Pastrana fan and wish him well, but unless he's taking every turn sideways I'm still not going to be watching any NASCAR oval racing.
And I will stand by my statement that his defection is a bad thing for US rally. Aside from Ken Block, he's the only rally racer with any sort of name recognition outside of the US rally community.

You make Dave Mirra cry on the inside, you know that? FOR SHAME!
As much as I do not enjoy watching (or even hearing about) NASCAR, we would all go and drive there if someone was to offer a boatload of money too. I don't really think of it as racing, but the drivers are talented - no question about that.

+1, I'd do it. I like boatloads of money.

It is a very difficult skill to acquire but it does not translate well to other driving disciplines because it's so specialized. Those guys who can do it consistently at the front are superheros. Superheros like Robin or Wonder Woman. Nobody gives a berkeley about Robin.
Danica will still get shoved down our throat.
Travis will spend most of his time in the wall or infield, by his competitors fault not his own.
He will figure it all out and make lots of money.
