99 times out a hundred, political discussions turn into political arguments. There are any number of other sites where people can do that to their heart's content.
People tend to forget this board is essentially the virtual lobby of GRM Magazine. They wouldn't want customers walking into their real building lobby to find people yelling and calling each other names, so it stands to reason they don't want it happening here either.

Yet they allowed it for a really long time.
The forum in question is Thumpertalk
I have a habit of logging out and not posting on forums for years at a time, and then coming back after I got less annoyed or whatever. Some forums change completely when you don't look at them a lot. This one almost never does. I think that speaks to the fact that there aren't too many trolls around. OK, see you in 2022.

This I definitely agree with, but I also agree with MrJoshua's sentiment to a point.
There are times when I would love to discuss the merits of a political philosophy or position with a diverse group of people. That's pretty hard to do in most forums. You either get the echo chamber or the close minded name callers. At least here you have a fair chance of getting a reasonably intelligent response, even if it is one you don't agree with.
Mom's house, Mom's rules. I'm good with that.
Oh, and I know I'm annoying at times, as well as a thread killer and piss poor grammarian. I make an effort, that's all you get.
Sorry, not sorry.

I got a 30 day ban as MGUAR for repeating language someone else used. I'm pretty sure we both got a similar ban. But like most sites I forgot my password and had to start over again.
I hate passwords. My wife keeps a sheet of them for me but I've learned the hard way not to interrupt her business day up in the office where she keeps them.
Those memes were the first thing that popped in my head, all in good fun. There have been some fun people that got banned, many of them just for having the guts to speak up. A forum where everyone just sits around and agrees with each other, and bans people that disagree, gets boring.
There have been some pretty good political discussions on this board. You just need to be sure its not about American politics. I could probably start a thread about yesterdays Canadian election, and we could have an interesting time slagging Quebec.

Ha! I got you guys beat! I start threads and then no one responds. (Please go comment on the Classic forum to make my tears taste less bitter)
The only time I've been banned from a forum was on a......well we musicians call them "blues lawyers" were talking about how you needed to spend thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars to sound like Santana. Santana's tone is easy, neck pickup, lots of gain and rolling the tone knob down to taste but he plays......a DUMBLE!!!! Which is a stupid expensive amp that people have literally sold houses to get....50k or more. I said, hey you can get 99 percent of his tone with the above recipe
Moderator banned me for a week and said he didn't like me spreading obvious falsehoods and if I wanted to be there I needed to be able to spend big money.

It's funniest when people are trying to play blues too......a style of music played by people who didn't have much money and played whatever they could afford

Haha. It's James Dolan. He owns the Knicks and Madison Square Garden. So he can buy not only good gear, but a whole band! And opens for the Eagles..who happened to be playing MSG. A real Blues Man

I can only imagine what they'd say to Bo Diddley about his guitar, especially if they didn't know he was Bo Diddley?

I once heard Bruce Allen telling a story about having a drink in a bar with Van Morrison.
The bar band was covering Brown Eyed Girl and doing a pretty good job of it.
When they were done, Van went to talk to them and ask if he could jam with them. The band didn't recognise him and snubbed him.
After he left, Bruce went up to the band and asked if they knew who that guy was that wanted to play with them.

As a gear snob in recovery, I agree. Granted, someone looking at my collection of gear could argue that recovery is not going well.
So much of sound and tone is the player, not the gear they're playing.
While $3700 for a guitar still isn't chump-change, Tim Pierce recently posted an interesting video with Howard Lease comparing a new PRS and a couple of Howard's vintage Les Pauls.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqI2TJvCxJI
Granted, they don't talk much about the amp(s) he's playing through in Tim's studio. IMHO, if it's something like an AxeFX modeling amp, the whole comparison loses validity as to me those amps seem to make every guitar sound the same.
Both blues and country were generally styles of music played by folks who tended to be on the poorer spectrum of society. Hence why they sounded so damn...genuine. Apparently, even an amplifier that costs 1/3 as much as my house can't replicate that sound.

Not sure I'd agree with that. There are so many pros who use Fractal's now that don't sound similar.
I think it's interesting how Meshuggah records their guitar parts. After they've written the part, they play directly in their recording software with no amps or effects or anything, and then use the Fractal to tweak it. So they don't have to use multiple takes, with multiple amps, etc, to get the sound they want for a particular song.

If you take "you needed to spend thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars to sound like Santana" and replace "dollars" with "hours", it would seem more believable.

The thing about that is that the tone affects how you play. I guess if they're splitting the signal, recording the raw while listening to something very close to the final sound it would work fine, but. I still find it really weird even after recording that way. And some semi-irrational part of me dislikes it on principle.

Mark Knopfler has always recorded by plugging directly into the board.
