I also seem to be stricken with Thread-Killer Syndrome. A thread will be going along full tilt with a lively and invested discussion and as soon as I post in it, it immediately comes to a screeching halt and nobody posts again.

We've all had that happen enough to worry about it. Somebody's gotta be the last one to post.

Why does it always have to be about frenchy?
Well......
Like Duke said, he makes it about himself. He's very knowledgeable about a certain Jaguar and its v12 engine, so much so that when he's incorrect people will think it's truth. His knowledge is extensive but out of date and incorrect pretty often. Cant call him out on it because then he makes additional long winded post going off on some tangent that he's gone on before eleventy other times. Predictable, fun, but annoying, at times entertaining. He's the closest thing to the forum troll here especiallywhen he attacks people because he can't keep track of his own post and replies.
So, I'll have fun with it at my leisure.
I like Jags, but I only own one with the traditional DOHC inline 6. Does this make me a half-frenchy?

Same thing happens to me all the time. For me, it's real because most of my posts are so off-the-wall brilliant and irrefutably twisted, that people are left speechless. For you, it's just your imagination.

Yes but... for every guy like that there are dozens of smart people with very strong technical knowledge. It's not as good as it used to be but it can still very good.
Since we're being that guy there's a member who posts on and off here that, for some reason, gets a lot of respect, yet posts so much BS and nonsense it makes me cringe. I see that name and I skip right past it.
Want to derail this thread? I can do it in a second

Even worse, I know this guy in person and he's just as difficult to deal with.
I think I remember that... Wasn't it where he would bypass the filter, and everyone told him, hey, don't do that, and his response was basically "who's going to stop me?'

You talking about Zombie Woof? Although I haven't seen him in a while...

Yes, that guy. He was the former head of the neighboring SCCA chapter to mine, and everyone in our chapter dreaded going to run with that region or when they would come and run with us, because then you had to deal with him. He was always tearing into course workers and drivers and insulting/degrading them, sometimes openly over the radios.

The new hatchback amps are great!
Ok....there's no such thing but it's still kinda funny

If the grill is angled, it's a hatchback amp.

Lol. Gear snobs are funny.
IMHO, if it's something like an AxeFX modeling amp, the whole comparison loses validity as to me those amps seem to make every guitar sound the same.
Not sure I'd agree with that. There are so many pros who use Fractal's now that don't sound similar.
I think it's interesting how Meshuggah records their guitar parts. After they've written the part, they play directly in their recording software with no amps or effects or anything, and then use the Fractal to tweak it. So they don't have to use multiple takes, with multiple amps, etc, to get the sound they want for a particular song.
That's not what I said. The Fractal can definitely create a nearly infinite variety of sounds. What I mean is that is the sound - switching guitars doesn't seem to make a lot of difference or the tonal difference gets severely subdued. I've listened to players using a Fractal unplug a Les Paul and plug in a Strat and the tone barely changes.
What Meshuggah does is known as "re-amping'" and has been a studio technique for decades.
Ahhh, I gotcha. Sorry for misreading what you were getting at.

I think a simplified “Forum Rules” section would be quite helpful.Having been involved with writing and enforcing a comprehensive set of rules for a very large and active forum, I profoundly disagree.
The more explicit you make a set of rules, the more explicitly the douches of the world will try to test the fabric and exploit the loopholes.
Forum rules need to be a feeling that can be easily grasped, not a set of laws that can be carefully analyzed. People who refuse to grasp that feeling get a few nudges, and if they don't get the hint, they are politely invited to find somewhere else to hang out.
Or, as Robbie put it, "Don't be a dick."
I hear you, and it makes good sense.
However my comment was in direct response to the question of whether we all knew about the 3 strike rule. Since many of us don’t, then there must be a better way to communicate it.
Personally, I don’t care if there are 3 strikes. But in response to the question, “Do you know about the 3 strike rule”, my answer is no. And I have no idea where I would find it.
But thats good. Shady, unclear rules allow the boss to slam buttholes from on high, but give people having a bad day a chance to settle down.
It's like the school security guard who had to be fired when he told a kid, "Don't call me a N....., young man. That's a bad word to use around me, and it makes you look stupid." or something along those lines. Zero tolerance, and the expectation of being able to write a set of rules that cover every possible situation is just stupid.

I never thought that about yupididit. Honestly he seems to me like he knows better than a lot of people when to walk away from an internet argument. But his opinions can trigger the snowflaky types sometimes.
Unless you were referring to the way he jumps in to all the "what car" threads to suggest a Mercedes, because that's some bullE36 M3.
