The accompanying footage shows competitor Ryan Vitale racing downhill at 45 mph before being tackled by a deer charging across the road.

There's a downhill section through woods that I frequently bike, and I've had to brake for deer a few times in the past. This scenario runs through my head from time to time. LOL.
For animals with such a wide field of view they sure don't look both ways before they cross the street.
Damn. That was one of those Hines Ward style nasty shoulder blocks. That's one tough deer.

Looks more like he tackled the deer.
Yeah, I reached the age where I will pass on high speed skateboarding.
I can almost hear the guy saying.............."oooooooohhhhhhhh E36 M3"

only on #18 of skateboarding perils?
Also I love that they dont take themselves too seriously I mean Le Mans doesnt have a corner named "The Gooch"
Surprised at the amount of exposed skin on some of the competitors.
Just a friendly reminder that we are into the rut season!
I love how he jumped on the deer like a steer wrestler

If it was me, I'd be figuring that I'd rather try to ride a deer than say hello to the pavement at 45 mph.
not sure on deer.. but a lot of animals (ourselves included) need movement to attract their attention. A car, motorcycle, or even a skateboarder does not have enough moving parts (legs) to attract the attention of the deer that there might be danger

I can personally attest that meeting pavement @ around 35mph from a skateboard is not fun. Don't want to find out what 45 is like
(one shattered wrist (both bones in forearm), one cracked wrist, two broken shoulders, several dozen cool scars, ~$100k in med bills if I wouldn't have had insurance, and a concussion later) =]
