Is there a computer program that exists that will allow you to plug your digital storage (ie SD card, thumbdrive, etc) into your computer, and allow you to sort and organize large numbers (hundreds, even thousands) of photographs, then allow you to save it digitally on a cd?
I have many family and car related photos on sd card currently and I'd like to make a "modern" photo album, rather than print each photo out and put in the old school large bulky photo albums that mom and my grandmas used.
Well on the simplest level you could just use windows explorer. Sort and organize your photos into folders and save the whole folder structure to the CD. Your photos would be sorted and organized and you could view them using any photo viewer software including whatever is included with Windoze these days.
There are plenty of other packages that add fancy interfaces and their own photo viewers if you want to spend some money but windows has everything you need for free.
I don't think you will be able to fit thousands of photos on a CD without compression.
I agree, just using Explorer (the Windows file system) is probably a very good way to do it. Just set the window view properties to Large Icons and sort away. If you need to take a closer look at any, double click them and view them the Photo Viewer. You can delete photos from Photo Viewer if you spot any blurry ones. A Mac will work in a very similar way.
If you have that many photos, a DVD is likely a good idea (almost 8 times as larger). Once you are done, it's not a bad idea to get a thumdrive of the appropriate size (they are pretty cheap) and save them there also. Easier to view on a computer / TV and a good backup.
If you organize them on the SD card/whatever you can take it to Costco and get a DVD made for $3.25
