My wheels desperately need refinishing. I bought them used and rashed (knowingly). It is finally to the point of annoyance.

And if I am going to refinish them, I'm toying with the idea of a gloss black finish. I love black wheels on silver cars, but am fearful of not liking the results.

To get an idea of what the car would look like, would it be feasible to make the wheels black in this photo?

It came out looking more like anthracite. Just squint.

Nice shoop, ECM.

Black rims mean business.

Hmm...BBS does have a finish they call "Diamond Black". It isn't really black in the true sense of the word, closer to anthracite. I like it!

Here is the rim I mentioned: BBS RS-GT in Diamond Black

And here it is on a BMW: BBS RS-GT on an e46 M3

This, however, is what got me thinking about it. I'm not sure how a satin finish would hold up over the long haul, but this paint scheme and wheel choice completes me (scroll down to see the finished paint job). VF engineering e92 M3 project car

That flat silver paint is Bad. Ass. Like Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, and Solid Snake all rolled into one.

I love BBS rims, my personal faves.

My personal feeling is that I do not like all-black rims. It adds to labor/cost/effort, but I prefer to see a silver or polished rim to highlight the joint.

The last project car I put together was silver with a good tint on the windows, and metallic gunmetal rims. It looked badass.

Semigloss, or matte black would probably look as good or better.

I don't disagree. However, the BBS RC (my wheel) has ZERO lip/dish, so there is nothing to polish. :(

Any pics by chance? I'm still torn and would love to see different combos.

There is a shop by me that does powder coating. I was in there getting some motorcycle parts done and they had these huge sweet looking rims for Mallet cars. They were done in a black chrome color, then some Mallet stickers were put on and they were powder coated in clear.

I used to have a bmx bike that was black chrome and these wheels looked just like I remember that bike. They were not chromed or polished before powder coating.

My E30 is close to what you're going for. It's Delpin Metallic with a pretty heavy tint with semi-gloss black wheels and a polished lip. You can check it out on my Reader's Ride page. The darker grey might throw it off and I apologise for the poor photo quality.
