Every f'ing E30 I try to buy sells. Last two examples...............
1) Call this guy to talk about car, etc. Ask him for directions and tell him I'll be there at the end of the day. I show up and he goes "Done sold it 25 minutes ago...." I really wanted to punch this dude square in the testicles.
2) Find one in Clearwater, ask them to please hold on to it for me, since I had work the last two days. Offered to send them $100 paypal, etc just to ensure them that I will come and get it. "Yea you don't have to worry about that, we'll hold on to it for you." Call them last night to let them know I was gonna come get it today. "Ummm, umm, umm, I think we sold it yesterday..."
This crap has been on going for a week or so now. I'm about to give up hope.
It's been my experience that a higher power is trying to save you from yourself if you can't ever seem to get a hold of a particular car. I'd start looking at other cars...
There are some cars that are only worth calling about if you are going to make an immdeiate appointment to look at them. E30s, diesel vws and neons (any that are worth buying) would be on that list for sure. The last time i was looking for a car, after calling a few i didnt even bother becasue i had both school and work so i couldnt get to any of them before they were sold.
I have stuck a guy once, but used cars go that way sometimes.
I was selling our 1994 S10 Blazer 4x4 and some dude and I agreed he could stop out on a Saturday. Somebody else insisted they come see it the Wednesday earlier in the week and bought it right on the spot.
I called the Saturday dude and he was furious because I let somebody else stop out before he did on Saturday.
Do you know how many people call on my used cars saying they are coming out later in the evening and never show? First guy with cash in his hand..................

Absolutely. But if someone has expressed serious interest in what I'm selling, I make a point to contact them and let them know it's been sold.

Bob Costas willow. Bob Costas cat. Bond made it with Bob Costas Galore and OctoBob Costas.
I just liked using that explicative. The dude who I offered to transfer money to hold on to it made me extremely angry. Whatever, I'll keep looking around.
I see an old lady driving one around everyday. I'm tempted to stop and ask her how much to take it off her hands.

About 15 years ago, I saw an old lady pull up in a '63 356 hardtop. We talked for a bit (she was the original owner!) and I asked if she'd sell to me. She knew enough to not say a wicked low amount. I did EVERYTHING I could to come up with $4000 cash for it but never did. You never know until you ask......

Yep. The amount of flakery involved in in selling a car is alarming.
Dirtybird has just had a run of bad luck. either that or E30's are suddenly a smoldering hot old/used car and it comes down to luck and timing in getting one.
I will say--selling out from underneath someone is a dick move, though. I tend to say something like "I'll hold it for you 'til 5pm tomorrow, then it goes to the next offer".
Yep, that's a dick move. That being said, buyers can be equally flaky. I just sold a car, had several people email and call, the first two people that set up times to come look at it didn't show up. The first person to look at it wrote a check on the spot.
That happened to me several times when I was looking for an integra and I think I even posted about it here. I find that people that own certain cars are flakier than others. Like in my case the integra/civic were the worst. When I was looking for an E36 everyone kept the schedule and kept their promise. In one case I was supposed to get the cash from the bank the next morning and drive up about 70miles to look at the car but the guy called me right back after selling the car to someone else saying sorry it's been sold and that saved me the time and drive to his place. You would think that's not a big deal, it wasn't the case for this stupid @$$ selling an integra about 50 miles from me. When I got about 10 mins from his house I called him to let me know I'm very close and he said 'oh sorry man, I sold the car to my neighbor just an hour ago' - I was furious but people are flakes, get used to it
the only E30 that has been for sale near me in the past year was a 'vert going for $7K,WTF
Rumor has it that there's a lot full of them somewhere and all you have to do is go get one, but I forget where. And there's one other thing but I forget what it is...
I don't know how these berkeleying rumors get started.

Wait, you take CHECKS for used cars? Not me, they can bounce or have a hold put on them. No thanks. I'll take good old American money and nothing else.
If you have the cash in the bank to write a check, you have the cash to hand it to me in $100 bills.

I agree. Cash, cashier's check/money order--but prefereably cash.

The guy i bought my 914 from looked genuinely terrified when I handed him a envelope stuffed with $20's. Guy must have been expecting a check.
I will say $1500 in $20's make for a decent wad. Stupid ATMs only spitting out $20's.
