Next year I plan on going out to Colorado for Pikes peak hillclimb as a vacation. Probably like 10 days or so. I've never been to that area and it has always intrigued me. I'd probably be driving from Atlanta in the TDI and splitting the fuel 2-3 ways then I'll have my car to drive around up there.

So a few questions for those of you that have done the event:

First of all, I can't find the dates for the 2014 event yet, if anybody f anybody can find them that would be awesome. Usually the last week in June I believe.

Where to stay (Colorado Springs, campout?), what to do in town.

I know this is WAY early but I usually book my vacation time for the next year in September.

Pikes Peak is an awesome event. If they haven't released a date, hopefully they do so.

Don't forget, once you're on the hill, you're on the hill. There is no service road, and realistically you're not walking up or down. So pack in everything that you think you'll need--food, water, chairs, etc., etc. They do have ports-potties, though. Also, it could be sleeting or hot that day. And if you go up or down a few feet, it could totally change.

Still, it's a bucket list event.

Camp if you can. Otherwise you're going to have to get up super-early to get up on top. And you want to watch from Devil's Playground. As you've no doubt heard, be prepared for just about any kind of weather. Also, bring all the food and water you'll need, as you won't be getting more.

Have your accomodations for the night after the race sorted out ahead of time. You'll get off the mountain late.

Take a drive up the mountain before the race. It'll give you a chance to see just what the drivers are dealing with.

I've never been, but there's a big fan festival in the Springs on Friday night. It sure sounds like fun.

The festival the night before is cool, and it's really your one chance to see the cars up close. It's open to the public, so there's a ton of people there. Still, it's a must do.

In for your experience, I was showing the wife some runs and stuff from this years event.

I don't know if we will make it next year, but I'm hoping to incorporate it as a Northern New Mexico/Colorado road trip.

That would be awesome.
