Sony's press conference hit it out of the park today. The PS4 looks awesome, and like it's gonna have a great selection of launch games. None of the Xbox One's crazy DRM, and cheaper at $399.
Anybody else preordered theirs yet?

They also said online play will require a Playstation Plus account ($50 a year) if you want to play online!
I know this is pretty much the same as Xbox currently, but PS owners are used to free online play. This is reasonable for the 6 hour a day COD players (and their need to declare others sexual orientation) It kinda sucks for occasional gamers who don't go online much.
I currently have no plans to go PS4. I am sure I would be at least a year out if I did. I does look like a good system though.
I'm willing to pay it, but yeah, free was nice. At least you get free games and a bunch of other stuff. It's less than Netflix or Hulu or whatever, and I use it more than I use those though, even though I don't play online all that much. Even if I only play like two two hour sessions a month, it's like $1 an hour, which isn't too bad.
All I ever play is GT5 (almost), and I don't do it that often.
Is it going to be an order of magnitude more awesome in terms of realism/graphics/etc?
I think I may be done upgrading 'til I hit the lottery and get a simulator with moving cockpit...

It has way more power an memory.
This appears to be gameplay footage:
It's pretty impressive. Gonna make life hard for developers though, that's almost movie level detail there.
Well that makes the decision easy. Since I take my games places without internet, I don't do multiplayer, and I have a fundamental objection to any phone home mechanism. Sorry Turn 10 looks like I'm abandoning you for Polyphony Digital.
BTW, in case it wasn't clear GT6 is on the PS3, not PS4. No word of a GT game on the PS4. There's some other driving game that's nice looking, but the physics look like a Project Gotham / Need for Speed kind of thing, so it's probably not particularly relevant to GRM.
Doesn't look that bad, btw.

I was on the Sony site looking at the games, you talking about DriveClub?
DriveClub is a next generation, socially connected racing game that captures the heart and soul of car culture and the passion it creates. DriveClub is a game to play in real clubs. It's about friendships and rivalries and team-based racing, together in the world's best supercars on the world's most breath-taking roads - all rendered in cutting edge next generation graphics.
Because honestly, if they do it right, that has the potential to be damn fun.
Did they say anything about the PSnetwork and charging money to use Netflix? (i.e. Netflix is in the free region and online gaming is the pay side.)
Yes, it appears Netflix is in no way linked to Playstation Plus. The primary thing that Playstation Plus does is give you online backup, thus the reason that it is not very popular, and likely the reason they essentially requiring it.
It is pretty interesting that one of the flagship products for PS, and of most interest to those here, Gran Tourismo is releasing a new version (GT6) around the same time as the launch of the PS4, but will ONLY work on the PS3!? The PS4 has some sort of online way of playing PS3 games, so they will likely have that (but then again you will probably have to have a PS+ account), but of course it will not take advantage of the PS4's capabilities.
I would guess the PS4 version of GT is a least a year away. 2+ years is probably likely though (given previous trends).

I for one like this. I am using the new wave of consoles to hopefully get that PS3 I always wanted for cheaper around the holidays. Mostly to serve as a DVD/Bluray player but I will definitely be picking up the GT series games.
