I was just reading our local paper and came across an article about a State Department that holds unclaimed money and property. For giggles, I went in and found two old utility deposits that had been forgotten years ago. 180.00 in new free money!! Not a bad surprise. I would imagine most states have similar programs, worth a few minutes to check it out.
My dad ran that program for the state of NC. They are usually under the Treasure's Office. There is literally millions if not billions out there waiting to be claimed. In NC, I believe that it takes at least 4 years for the property to be eligible to be recovered. Deposits, final pay-checks, and other stuff falls into this category. Even the contents of safe deposit boxes get auctioned off. I went to a ton of those auctions as a kid. Strange stuff. From dentures to Rolex watches, you can find it all!
hey sweet...just found some funds in my brothers name...I expect 18% finders fee

We found a couple listings on my state's website last month for my grandmother who passed away 11 years ago. Got back a letter from the state last week that the unclaimed sum is almost $2500 in insurance dividends. I sure could have used that 11 years ago :).
huh. i dont seem to understand all this
Just found the web site for OK and checked.
Nothing for me.
