A good friend of mine passed this morning from injuries sustained in an accident where he fell out of a moving golf cart. No idea what was going on, but I know he hit his head on pavement.

this sucks.

I have fallen out of a moving golf cart recently, and I was fine. This shows how differently events could have transpired...it really makes you think just how fragile you actually are...

Very true- apparently he was "hitching a ride" back to the reception area- not sitting, and they were not going quickly. But his head was the first thing to impact....

thanks for the thoughts, all.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. That truly sucks. Working in a hospital, it always amazes me how resilient and tough people can be and at the same time how incredibly fragile even the biggest, strongest can be.

My condolences. One doesn't normally think of riding on a golf cart as being one of those daredevil, high-risk actions. I can imagine everyone associated is in shock.

A good friend's wife once fell out of a moving golf cart and the first thing to hit was her head. While it did not kill her, it caused massive brain trauma. She suffers from issues still and this happened 4-5 years ago.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss Eric.

My wife fell off her bike when she was little... now she gets headaches whenever the barometer changes a lot...

I think the moral of the story is... Don't hit your head!

I'll say a few prayers for your friend and his family.

No, and usually its pretty safe if you follow the instructions. But you have to think that it is, other than possibly some boating, the only time where alcoholic beverages and a motorized vehicle are accepted in the same situation.

One more note- since we are having a get together tonight- it reminds me what's important- while we miss our friends and family that we lose- it's more important to remember all of the good times that we've had with them.

And also remember to have fun and enjoy the company of all of your current friends and family.

Eric

It's the height from the ground, not the speed at which you're traveling, that determines head injury severity. Going faster just means you grind more skin away unless you're unfortunate enough to hit a pole or something.

I kinda laugh a little when people say they don't need a helmet for riding a bike, they're not going to be going very fast. Missing the point entirely.

So sorry to hear of that...About a month ago there was an event at the York (PA) fairgrounds and a woman in her 70s (IIRC) was struck by (not fell out of) a golf cart and died at the hospital a day later...just because the thing's realtively slow is no reason to let your guard down. Really, be careful out there.

Again, thanks, all. It's always nice to know that you have a diverse community helping when you are down.

The reception we had last night was good- it really helped the family and immediate friends quite a bit- you could tell by their demeanor, especially knowing how tough the last few days had been.

Remember to pat you pet, kiss your loved one, and enjoy the day. Or any combination of that....
