No. You don't want that job. No, you don't.

I grew up in "The Valley" and have had many friends that work the internet side of the business.

You don't want that job.

same here. They sent out an email months ago saying if you got in early at the low rate, you'd be good to go (or something like that). I certainly jumped at that chance...$2.99 a month is peanuts, really....to not see years-old build threads destroyed. We will see if that deal lasts. If not, there is zero chance I'll go back and fix my 1000+ post threads, sadly.

just received a message from PB the 3rd party hosting is done for my account. Downloaded everything earlier today. Not sure who would pay 500/month for photo hosting. I'm obviously not their target audience.

Just found a cool feature on Imgur that is exactly what I was talking about doing on Berkit. It gives you several syntax as well as size options for each photo. You can copy the HTML syntax and paste it directly into your post here without going through the "Photo" widget, saving a little time. As long as you know what code they're using where you want to post, it makes it simple.

Well all my build threads got the nuked email today. I have 0 interest or time to spend fixing them sadly. I will download the album's and leave them up for a bit in case Photobucket undoes this stupidity.

Would it not be appropriate response that anyone who runs a forum turn around and ban any and all links from Photoberkeleyit?

Because for all intensive purposes PB has nuked the value of their forums by killing all the images in threads. Try running a site called "Build Threads" or "Lateral G" after FB has killed your inventory. Would also prevent people from spendin $400 on FB.

Got the email too. I'm going to do the same as you. I don't have time to go back and edit all of my threads on various forums. I will just leave them there and hope that at some point PB comes to their senses. I can't see how they will get more than a handful of people to pay their ridiculous fees.

I think I'll have some free time coming up to pretty up the site. Anyone want to design a photoberkit logo? I unfortunately do not have mad skillz in this area.

I may have used a non standard pronunciation of PhotoBucket rhyming with "F it" and been caught by the GRM filter.

If anything what we should do is create a redirect service where you can have a known URL that never changes for an image and then you could redirect that request to an image hosting service URL. If the image host changes then you can change the URLs in one place. Granted it would still suck to manually change a lot of image locations if it was just an editor, but I'm betting you could make it more automated by having the app do the uploading for you to multiple image services, that way if one goes down, you just go in and flip a switch telling it to use a different one.

The only downside to this approach is that each image requires at least two http requests vs one so it would slow down loading of pages with a lot of images hosted this way. First request is to the image redirecter and the second is to the host.

Photobucket finally got me. Muffin and Moby threads are now imageless.

Thankfully I managed to download all of my albums from Photobucket.

I'd like to eventually repopulate the threads with working hotlinks, but what a chore.

Photobucket is dead to me, now to decide on a new host...

This is my go to for image hosting. I haven't uploaded anything to photobucket in 7 years.

Would it be possible to have a per user forum setting that allows their photobucket links to be redirected to their image host of choice? This could save many build threads without manually editing a bajilion links.

The idea of a shared hosting site was brought up by Woody first. In that thread Tactical Penguin suggested the name Photoberkit. A few weeks before the Photobucket apocalypse I had started hosting my images on my own site mainly because I was tired of the Photobucket ads. While watching the discussion I saw what I thought was the need but no one actually doing a site. So I registered and set up a basic site. EastCoastMojo asked how to help and I took that as a volunteer to head the Photoberkit committee. And that's where we are.
