At the risk of floundering my own thread in the first post, does anyone know of a non-partisan organization that reviews candidates, amendments, etc in advance of elections? I always vote, but would like to better educate myself before doing so.
TIA.
I think it's against the law to use the word non-partisan in a thread with political in the title. The thought police will be at your house shortly to pick you up.
These guys do a decent job of fact-checking candidates' claims:
http://www.politifact.com/
Remember that no news source can be 100% unbiased but I think Politifact does a decent job of being even-handed. They also do a lot of research on candidate's past promises and voting actions before declaring something true, false, pants-on-fire, etc.

"non partisan" is just about as useless a phrase as "bi partisan"- the concepts they define don't exist in the real world.
all you can do is look at what a number of different sources have to say about each different candidate, then fall back on your gut to decide what you believe.

They don't endorse or review but they do give the voting records and stance on major issues.
League of Women Voters usually ask some questions, and post those- some basic questions about the basic issues.
Yeah. Pretty much check their voting record. That tells the story.

I'm not sure I like that site.
It's almost TOO factual.
For example- the Congressional incumbent in my district is embroiled in a nasty ethics issue. Bottom line is he used a lot of public money to benefit his own family. It's well documented, and not really disputed, just ignored. There's no way to find anything about this on that site.
This candidate will not be defined solely by his voting record.
Thanks folks. I'll cross reference a few sources and then decide.
I used realclearpolitics.com
They are a good non-biased site, used them a lot in my last poly-sci class
