Getting caught in the bumper like that is probably the best option after not getting hit in the first place. Not getting stuck means getting thrown over the car or going under it.
Ack. Glad the doggo survived and is doing ok. What a fluke thing to happen, but I guess the plastic of the bumper grill was about the softest part of the car to get hit by so that's good.

Well yeah, given enough of Newton's First. Just glad the dog's OK; will need elbow surgery. Pretty lucky.
