Was looking for a 3 series on Craigslist, and came across a seller asking $5000 for a '99 323. When you see one at that price, you'd expect one in decent shape, maybe not a cream puff, but an OK driver, right?
Um, no. That price would make more sense before crashing it.
More reasonable basis for comparison
Any cases you've seen recently of somebody wanting so much for a car on Craigslist it's funny?

I love the picture on the side of the road. It looks like it's still sitting where the accident happened
There's a guy in Atlanta metro trying to get $3800 for a VR6 Corrado that will immediately need $2K in paintwork:

He's been trying to sell it off & on for over a year. IIRC, started out asking around $5K.

Don't click unless you're really bored or actually need one Yugo Hubcap for $20.

Well it comes with a "high dollar car cover" - there's fourteen grand right there!
Can't link it because you need to log in, but a guy on another forum I go to was once trying to sell this complete turd of a 180SX that he'd sawzalled into a pickup truck for four grand. Oh, and that was his price without the wheels, coilovers, LSD and other aftermarket crap.

This one has been bugging me because it keeps popping up in my search for "alfa" for some months now. Take a hint buddy, nobody wants to spend $11K on your ugly VW kit car...

To be fair, the crashed car was an E46 and the comparison example was an E36. Even so, uncrashed that car wouldn't go for more than about 8k. I haven't seen a driveable E46 under 5k yet, but yeah, that guy is nuts to think his wreck is worth much more than scrap value with 222k on the clock.
There was a guy selling a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata in Sacramento a week ago. Asking $16,990, which is a bit on the high side. But the best part was the picture: the car, parked on the side of the street with a car cover on it. That's it. You couldn't even tell what color it was.

Man, I wish I had been a typical dumb debt-loving american in '05 when those things were selling for 17,995 BRAND NEW at Bommarito Mazda in St. Louis. I test drove one and I loved it, and they really wanted them gone, but I figured it would be a dumb move to buy a new car at my age and poverty level.
Yeah, the prices of those took a bit of a climb back up after the 2006 appeared. They sure were hard to sell when new, not a car that showed its best face on a test drive and the Neon SRT-4 was available.
Anyhow, not a delusional Craigslist listing, just funny because it was inept. The listing now has a full set of pictures so I find it much less interesting.

It's got a goofy paintjob, buy it doesn't look like a bad paintjob. I thought that was about the price one if those go for?
What would worry me is the go-fast goodies. You don't put them on to drive the car gently.

$4500 for a 90 Miata with 168K miles, located in the rustbelt. Maybe some of the $4K he spent on "customizing" it should have gone towards fixing the damage to the driver's side door. Love the VW radio.

In reply to eastsidemav:
It's an anti-theft measure- if they can slide the radio out with no tools, they won't screw up the surround (more) trying to get it. OTOH, you can't say the seller didn't post enough side and 3/4 shots.

2001 Impreza OBS with 100k on it and an obvious and unrepaired left rear hit. They were originally asking $7995 but it appears to have dropped a bit since then.

$3800's not bad, especially considering some of the stuff he's got on it (I paid $4K for the black one three years ago)..but most of us VW guys consider ourselves the "tasteful" alternative to the "ricer" crowd (except for some of the A1 & A2 folks, who do a lot of fun things like painting them olive drab & such . If that stuff were just vinyl we could peel off, it'd be a go..but if it's paint, most Corrado guys I know would immediately drive it to Maaco to cover it up until we could get it painted for real.

2.4? What, a stroker motor?
In reply to Rusty_Rabbit84:
WTF is that next to it? A cartoon cat driving a fire engine?
Quite a bit of change for what is basically a Lebaron with some tridents on it.
