I fully agree with this. Sadly, currently news IS entertainment, at least it is treated that way from a production standpoint. Also very sadly, taking extreme viewpoints with NO respect for the other side of the argument has become the standard for opinion type shows, which of course makes them pointless (unfortunately a lot of viewers do not see this).

I'm not arguing that point. They do. They have found a market niche otherwise unoccupied, and they are making money by filling it.

But just because Fox has chosen to exploit the public from the right-wing side of the fence doesn't mean that the rest of the so-called "news" media on the left-wing side of the fence are NOT doing exactly the same things, just with their Democrat-supporting slant.

But Fox doesn't make any pretensions about what they do, unlike the rest of the "news" media, who love to act like they are noble journalists above partisan bias. Most of the regular newsdroids want you to believe they have integrity even though they telegraph their clear political leanings with a slant that is visible from space. And the fact that Fox are NOT dyed-in-the-wool liberals does in effect leave them as the only audible voice of non-liberal dissent in the leftist MSM wilderness, no matter how sensationalist they may be.

Fox may be neo-con whores but at least they are obvious and honest about it instead of lying to make you believe they hold their squeaky-clean unbiased integrity above all.

All you guys have good points. I think the crux of the matter is that the Prez shouldn't be cozied up to by the media. It creates problems like it has in the past. I want to see the media tar and feather whoever is President. I want to watch the President have to bob and weave, justify and defend, his ideas. If the ideas survive that then they're probably good ones.

I also get that you guys who don't view yourselves as limousine liberals like that Fox runs counter to the perceived current.

Kudo's to NPR. I've listened to them and they can be biased. I also think they really put forth the effort to get the real dirt on stories and present both sides. I like them more for sticking up for Fox.

But if Obama-bashing were so lucrative and media news outlets were so entertainment and revenue driven, one could easily see the ilk of NYT, NBC and MSNBC (all of whom are bleeding cash) changing their business plans.

Instead, they (and others) continue forwarding their chosen ideologies while watching themselves falling ever so quickly to bankruptcy or obscurity.

Any company that finds a "niche" appealing to half of a total customer base (because there are no other competitiors) cannot help but make money.

NBC and MSNBC are being run to forward their parent companies business plans. GE, which owns NBC networks, has been touting "Eco-magination" and working to move the country in the direction of green energy and such via the talking heads on MSNBC. hell, a while back, MSNBC "interviewed" jeff immelt about GE's eco-magination and green energy initiatives and how great the new stuff from GE is. it was basically an infomercial for GE disguised as "news"

And Mr. Immelt is an economic advisor for the current administration. The people who pulled their hair out because of Bush/Cheney ties to big business are pretty much ignoring this dalliance.

When a Repub gains the presidency, the usual suspects will feature stories on the "stolen election" and focus on voter fraud and voter disenfranchisement - the same things pretty much ignored all last year.

Interesting thing about Fox- it was founded by Rupert Murdoch. My cousin is president of a major network, and answers directly to Mr. Murdoch. He has shared a lot with me about Mr. Murdoch.

Mr. Murdoch is NO conservative. He falls significantly to the opposite end of the political spectrum.

But he certainly knows how to deliver to a profitable niche. He saw a market, and grabbed it.
