With the 8 lug wheels. What size/type wrenches do I need to remove the front calipers?

I'm going to Florida next week and plan on doing a little junkyard scrounging for some parts I need.

I need to pack minimal tools.

I seem to remember an 18 mm wrench or socket? Should get confirmation of that though.

Ugh.... I'd like to say you'll need a 15 or 18mm for the caliper and a 21 or a 22mm for the hanger. Don't bother with wrenches, get a breaker bar.

Mine were easy to break loose, 18mm and a 21mm as I recall.

pretty much any brake or suspension removal can be done with 15, 18, and 21 on the 99+ trucks.

Good to know. No allen heads right?

Shouldn't be, unless GM was still using the integrated pad carrier setup from the 90s.

I suggest breaker bar because GM used Loctite on the threads and they can ge a real bear to remove. Stall-my-impact-gun bear. Extra fun for the rear calipers which have the bolts right next to the leaf spring, so the only way to get in there is with a breaker bar and a cheater pipe.

Cheater pipe may be necessary for the caliper brackets. Those suckers can be awful tight.

Why not just get them locally, at a parts store? They shouldn't cost too much if you have cores and they will be shiny and clean..

No cores. These are going on my 46. Sister bought me the drum to disk conversion brackets. New I parts store would be 300+. I'll use JY to start and mock up for now.

Nothing on a 70 year old truck is shiny and new.
