At this point, I'm kinda leaning hard back to doing something like the XXRs above, or just buying a set of the one crappy tire available in a 225/60 14 and using the Rewinds I already have. If I bought hte crappy tires, it would, at least, give me some time to look around for a decent deal on some 16" wheels. Something would probably come along if I wasn't in a hurry. But I'm going to have to do something about tires here soon.

You'd just take them off when you put your race wheels on, no big deal. They're just bolt on adapters.
Man, does it ever take me a long time to make up my mind. Just a necropost to thank everyone for their help on the wheel thing and for talking me down on those Epsilons.
Last night, in what alcoholics call a "moment of clarity", I realized that I don't need any more projects or "deals" that turn out to be a PITA. I also realized that I really want to be able to buy decent tires with some selection in the size I want.
I ordered a set of these:
And a set of the new BFG G-force Sport Comp 2s in 225/50 16. They should be more than fine for getting to and from events, and should work for autocross schools or winter events when I don't feel like swapping tires in the cold.
