Boss just came back from a few months overseas and bought a new Cayman S fully loaded to go with his Mercedes 500SLK. I think the Merc will be for sale though. He just pulled me into his office and asked me what is the best radar/laser detector he can get. Personally I find it easier to just not push the limits on the street and take it to the track. I have friends that are/were cops and they told me that whatever is on the market, Law Enforcement has the next generation. And I know laser only takes an instant and a small area, when the laser goes off, all it means is that you're caught. He's not a racer though. So GRMers, what would you suggest as a good laser/radar detector?

Escort! Hey, they cost the same as a V1, they must be just as good, right?

My real answer is a combination of not speeding (very much) and a cheap Bel. That's what I use.

V1 ... and yes the laser is hard to beat ... but pretty much like instant on, if the laser is pointed at another vehicle in front of him ... you sometimes can get enough splatter to set the detector off and maybe slow down in time ...

best bet, assuming he's not going to go the limit is to be sure you're not the fastest thing out there ....

ride in the right lane as much as possible, and don't weave in and out of traffic thereby drawing their attention

Thanks guys! Passed the V1 onto him. He was looking at one that was around $1000 and said that was OK but the next one listed at 1700 was too much. The V1 is cheaper than that and better specs.
