If you guys want to do that without the mess, put scotch tape on the rear wheels of your slot car. Makes for awesome doritoes on slot car tracks. I have a set that used to have a jump that oscillated up and down (so depending on timing you may or may not hit it). Good times!
From what I've read, they use powdered sugar/cocoa, and aside from having to clean the car/engine (sorry motor, before some shiny happy person tries to point out the difference) a bit more often, it's not any harder on the track itself.
The Spanish have been doing it for years, enough so that SCX and NINCO have developed the textures of their track for it.

Good thing we are not slot car drifting, looks like we are rally slot car RACING .
One, you get scored for looks (subjectively), the other, you are scored for performance (objectively).
The slot car rally thing is almost enough to make me buy a setup.
Especially if you did set it up as a super special stage, where the cars start side-by-side and race around the track. Thanks to the new digital track, you can have 2 cars or more on one lane of track.
That is wicked cool!
I do have to wonder if I can get my original HO Scale Thunderjets to do that. They already tail-out around every corner, I just need to add brown sugar...
